Anyone using Paul's Maestro Music management system?

I am having similar issues with the ones that you are describing. In order to save the logs to send to Paul, in Maestro, click on Help and then on “Save Logs to Desktop…”, which will then save the logs to your desktop. If they don’t (which happened one time to me), reboot the computer and try again. That worked for me when it happened. I am using a MacBook and so it may be slightly different in you are using a PC.

thanks Paul, side note the foundry sub sounds great and may get a 2nd one!

2 is mandatory!!

Thanks and I’ll let Chris know.

Have been listening to version .306 for a couple of days.

Great sounding as always, but I have noticed that Maestro uses 10 to 15 seconds between tracks (Qobuz). As I recall, this was not the case in previous versions.

Some versions ago I checked Gapless playback: didn’t work. If Maestro needs more time between tracks now, it seems we are heading in the wrong direction.

Lars, you’re right, and it’s not the direction I want either. 306 waits for a confirmation window before moving to the next track, and on Qobuz that window is landing 8 to 12 seconds after the track actually ends. That was a trade against tracks restarting and it’s tuned too conservatively. The fix is to advance the moment the device reports the track finished and only wait when it doesn’t say. That’s in the next connector release, not a rework. Gapless is a separate piece of work and I’m not there yet on network renderers.

Local file play broken

Try to play any local file and get the message “couldnt play this file”. I Retstarted the app did clean install - still no joy log sent. Sigh

Did you happen to reboot computer also? It’s like the 90’s all over again.

Oh Yes - sadly no reboot magic happening :upside_down_face:

Just waiting for Paul

I mentioned SQ before a few times - If it were not for that I would be back to Amarra Luxe in a flash

Best wishes from 1999

sorry guys that should be working! Are you sure your NAS is still connected? One of the silly issues that is rather maddening is that Maestro holds your library info after scanning and show it as there and ready to play even if your NAS has gone to sleep. Then you get that stupid message. Just one more of three hundred little tweaks I need to add—a note that says, hey, your NAS is asleep or, even better, the auto ability to wake it up via Maesro.

Hey Paul

The files are on the hard drive of a mac mini M2 on which Maestro is hosted - so its not the NAS sleep issue here. - Any ideas ? Does the log show anything - do you need anything more from my end that would help

Thanks

Just gone back to Maestro this morning and as it opened this message is displayed “macOS blocked maestros direct command link on this Mac. Transport commands may not reach your renderer”

Only local files are not playing - qobuz is fine

I didn’t update to today’s release, but I tried to play an MP3 with no luck. I believe it was the first time I tried to play an mp3.

Love the sound quality. I note that playlists often stop randomly and I have to forward to the next song manually to get it going again.

I have not opened Maestro since mid August, and I will not do it soon. I need some smooth operation on music without hiccups for at least a few days to recover from a long trip. I am just not ready for making my fingers sore yet since my legs are still sore. Roon will do and it sounds great after a couple of days of warming up.

Welcome back from your vacation Donald, hope you got a round of golf in. :man_golfing:

@Paul I am using my PC to play out of it’s USB port to a Matrix which is connected to My Bacch4Mac Mac Mini. When I play music it says my output is untested and limited to 16.44.1. There is no way I can see to test this output. It does not show up on the network as it is the same machine Maestro is running on. Can you help me on this?

Actually, that’s a good question! My local audio output devices are not listed under “Devices” for testing either…

Al, that output is a local USB device, not a network player, so it won’t appear under Network Players — that’s expected. The “untested, 16/44.1” label just means Maestro hasn’t run its format test on it yet, and the test lives on the Devices page: Tools → Devices, find the “Speakers (X-SPDIF Series)” card, click its chevron to expand it, and under “Find your device’s best format” press Test All Formats.

Each rate gets a ✓ or ✗ and the zone limit lifts to whatever the Matrix passes. If a rate you know the Matrix handles comes up ✗, tell me which one. Current version is 11.0.314 — take it when offered.

I have a weird issue with DSD files. DSD 64 files Play perfectly well. DSD 128 sounds really slow and very distorted. You can barely recognize what the music is. DSD 256 and 512 won’t play at all. This happens with ripped SACD’s and downloaded DSD files. I’m using a M1 Mac mini connected to a dedicated audio network. The streamer I’m using is the Aurender N20 and the Dac is the Master Fidelity Nadac. The DAC’s display shows all DSD files, regardless of sample rate as DXD 352.8. When I play the same files back using the Aurender’s Conductor app they play perfectly and the sample rate is correct. The same happens with the Roon they play perfectly in the sample rate is correct. My DSD files are stored on an external plug into the Mac mini via USB. To eliminate issues with the external hard drive I copied some music to the Mac mini’s drive, same sonic result.

In earlier versions of the software l saw a place to test the sample rate the DAC would accept, I can not find this with the lastest updates. To verify it was not a problem with my Mac mini switch to a MacBook Neo and had the same issues.

Your DAC reading DXD 352.8 for every DSD file tells me Maestro is converting your DSD to PCM before it leaves the Mac. DSD64 survives that conversion; DSD128 is arriving slower than real time, which is the slow, distorted sound; 256 and 512 don’t make it at all. Conductor and Roon hand the DAC native DSD, so they sound right. This is ours, and I’d like your log to see why the conversion is being chosen.

Two things from you. First, which zone are you playing to in Maestro — the N20 as a network player, or the Nadac directly over USB from the Mac? Second, the format test you remember is still there: Tools → Devices, find your zone’s card, click its chevron to expand it, and press Test All Formats under “Find your device’s best format.” Run it, then Settings → Export Logs, and send me the file with a note of which zone.

You’re on 311; the current version is 11.0.314. That might be better.

Feel free to email me directly and include logs.
