Anyone using Paul's Maestro Music management system?

Can Maestro handle 39,701 tracks at this time?

The answer appears to be yes. kewl.

Was unable to get rid of everything I scanned. Maestro kept leaving a few albums (think it was 86) on the system. Will revisit tomorrow and try to figure it out. Might have to delete and re-install?

Only in the absence of rabbits.

I believe I was among the first group of users to subscribe to Maestro, without realising that it wasn’t actually ready as a finished piece of software.

I encountered a major issue with my local library (around 7TB, 4,000 albums, and over 70,000 tracks). After several scans over a few days, I was at least able to listen to Qobuz, and I really liked the sound.

Unfortunately, after a few software updates, I was no longer able to play any songs on Qobuz. I kept getting the error message: “This album is not available for streaming.” At the same time, the situation with my local library became even worse. As a result, I decided to quit and cancel my subscription.

I’ve been monitoring this thread and noticed that there have been a couple of updates (1.4.3 and 1.4.4). Since I really like the sound, I thought I might give it another try. I created a new account, as I didn’t want to mix it up with the previous one.

This time, it took about 12 hours to complete scanning my local library, and it successfully added 4,000 albums. However, the number of “Enriched” items (I’m not sure what that means) stopped at 47,898, with 24,296 still marked as pending.

I can’t say it’s fully successful yet, as I need a few more days to test it properly. So far, I’ve noticed the following:

  • For most Asian records, it shows: “The string contains invalid characters.”

  • Due to the large number of albums, scrolling is not easy. It takes a long time to find the album I want, and every time I press the back button, it returns to the top of the page instead of the previous position.

That said, despite the issues above, I’m glad to see the progress and improvements. Most importantly, the sound quality is far better than I expected—definitely the best I’ve experienced so far.

No sorry. I only own one old IOS device and I used up my free trial a couple of years ago and don’t want to pay just to compare :slightly_smiling_face:

I have been listening to Maestro for hours now. It is easily my new favorite way to stream music. Easily. And so far it is doing well with my library.

Yay! Thanks, Al! That made my morning. Trying to wade through the issues and get folks up and running. Thanks for the great feedback.

Hello Paul & Folks:

I am not a computer Guru. So much of my problems with Maestro is probably due to my lack of expertise… But. As Paul suggested, I went to support and had a nice conversation with the AI. It suggested that I disable the Firewall. I visited that rabbit hole and tried to download the 10.4.4 file. l kept getting a message to the effect that the download file is not commonly used and make sure I trust it. I am on Windows right now and version 10.4.3. On the MAC and my Mac Air side it is in version 10.4.11 which is the one before the 10.4.3 and can’t update there as well. both have their share of bugs and I am anxious to update.. I am lost. I disabled the auto update because it flashes the update screen on a regular basis but does not update. BTW the SQ is very promising and is improved over Qobuz alone.

Tried again this morning and still only get 2 seconds of audio before it stops. Maestro continues like everything is fine. Both Roon and Audirvana have no issues with my current system.

Thanks Paul! I am very late to the party so I probably skipped the last 100 posts here.

No issue downloading the app into my Window PC, and I am really looking forward for the iPad version since that will be much easier to control streaming for my system.

So far adding local files into Maestro is without issue too (4TB), but I have not tried playing any song yet.

I am very happy to see Maestro finding both PMG512 and Grimm MU2, and I will soon try playing both.

So far my best streaming SQ is using Roon playing MU2, and it will be interesting to compare Maestro to it.

The operation appears to be very easy. Really looking forward to hearing this thing in 30 minutes!

Hi Joe,

With Maestro, the goal is not to require you to be a computer guru, though sometimes (at least in the beginning as I work out the bugs) we might need to offer some help.

Windows update not applying: Your firewall or antivirus (likely Windows Defender) is probably blocking the update download. That’s why the update screen keeps popping up but never finishes. To fix:

  1. Go to Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history
  2. Look for any blocked items related to “Maestro” and click Allow
  3. Re-enable auto-update in Maestro Settings
  4. Restart Maestro — it should update to 10.4.4 automatically

The “not commonly downloaded” warning when downloading manually is normal for newer Windows apps — it’s a Microsoft SmartScreen reputation check, not a security issue. Maestro is safe. Click “More info” → “Run anyway” to proceed with the install.

Mac version: The latest Maestro version is 10.4.4 on all platforms. Could you check your actual Maestro version in Settings? (You may be seeing your macOS system version instead.) If you’re truly stuck on an old version, try downloading fresh from maestromusic.app/download and installing over the existing app.

Sound quality — glad to hear you’re noticing the improvement over Qobuz alone! That’s exactly what Maestro is designed for.

I’m using Maestro for Mac. I haven’t had any issues with local albums, but the system still seems unstable regarding the Qobuz integration. My main issue is the synchronization with my favorites library on the streaming platform. As for live albums, gapless playback doesn’t seem to be implemented yet. The sound is more transparent and detailed than in Roon. Once these bugs are ironed out, I think it has a lot of potential. Next, I wonder how the Prism features will sound, especially the various filters with DSD upsampling (from what I understand, the algorithms will be cloud-hosted). That is my biggest curiosity regarding Maestro.

Gapless will be working hopefully end of next week. Prism is waiting for me to fix the bugs and get everything running smoothly.

Yay!!! Thanks so muchb for the kind words! Keep us in the loop and can’t wait for you to actually hear what is really special, the sound!

Hi David, would you mind terribly filling out a support ticket? That’ll get you in the queue and I will fix it for you.

Here is one bug that I am not sure if it was reported before. For Window version when I do a search by genres, the Maestro went into a organizing mode forever. Then none of the music could be played from files. This happened for both PMG and MU2 too.

I closed the app. and restarted it was the only way to play files again.

The sound seems to flow more smoothly. Does Maestro need settling time too? It seems to be improving SQ after 15 min.

Compared to Roon how much of a difference / improvement do you judge so far?

Too early to say. I am still learning Maestro, so far I am listening through MU2 only. The SQ is excellent but I need to get familiar with it first.

When changing albums the music stopped a couple times, and I needed to restart the app to play again. Also, it seems some albums the tracks do not play continuously. There are bugs needed to be fixed for sure.

@Paul , I seem to be having a sticky issue with Maestro, one that has been reported by some others.

I’m streaming to a Grimm MU2 via UPnP. Often I can start an album without issue, but before long the music goes quiet, although the scrubber and time display show the track is still playing. If I select a different track, I can sometimes get output, although the display suggests that I’m playing the previous, failed track.

I’ve quit and restarted, I’m on the latest release, and I love most of what I see, but this has become shockingly unreliable for actually producing sound.

Any ideas where to look?

Rob
