I was able to close Maestro and when re-opened, it seems to continue scanning where it left off. previously it had to start re-scanning and did not remember that I had a local library. Been scanning this time for the past 8 hours. seems to be getting near the end. will see what happens when it completes. Still on 10.4.3.
Good news - it does actually sound better than Roon. I thought i would give it a try but did not really expect to hear much of a difference. Figured it would take me some time to hear it. It was immediately different, and after a few minutes I really started to like it. Not sure how to describe it, other than it feels slower, with the ability to hear between notes better. I know that make no sense, the music isn’t really slower, just my ability to hear in between. There is also more ambient information. Both Roon and Maestro are going directly to PMG DAC. Thanks Paul, I am having fun with a new tool in listening kit.
right. 10.4.3 is the latest but make sure you quit and then restart the app again to see any cahnges I made. Most changes aren’t new versions they are on the fly changes everyone enjoys as soon as they are deployed but, again, gotta, quit and restart to have them work.
Let me know. I just scanned about 2,000 albums and it worked fine. I have a cron jb that updates the cover at 20 per second so it’s a little slow.
Indeed, glad to see you’re noticing how wickedly better the sound is. Thanks., That’s what I worked hardest at (cause you know…its me).
Also I extended everyone’s trial another two weeks and if you start now it’s 30 days. As many of you have kindly pointed out, we’re still a ways from stable and fluid enough to charge for this but I can’t onboard folks without going through the Stripe routine. Anyway, no one is being charged and no one will be charged until this is right. Thanks for hanging in there with me, your crazy guy with a dream.
That did the trick–I was looking for 10.4.4 and not finding it. The other trick was to remove and scan the files again rather than just hitting the rescan button. The continuous pay, timing bar and the pause button all now work correctly too. Definitely a worthwhile update!
And yes, the sound quality is not just “better” but “instantly noticeably better”–even to a casual listener. It’s the SQ that keeps bringing me back.
I spoke too soon–Maestro reacts very differently to different types of file. It tends to import AIFF files correctly; gets WAV files mostly right, but assigns them to “Various Artists”, and only gets the title and track listing correct on DSF files (missing track timing, cover art and artist name). Albums without track timing will not play continuously.
Thanks!!! Yeah, my bad for having written 10.4.4 as I got out of synch. The most current version is 10.4.3 as you saw. And also a reminder that most of the improvements and upgrades happen without any notification of version change so as we’re working on development, be sure and occasionally quit the program and log back in. That loads a fresh new version every time.
And yes, for those with libraries, now that they are fixed, you’ll have to dump what you have an scan from the start again. Sorry, but that’ll do it.
Good so far with the latest release on Windows. It’s actually "Cataloging your library - 738 of 2639 albums’ so that’s much further than I got with the last release. I will report when it’s done but thought that I’d report on the sound quality I’m hearing playing Qobuz through my PS Audio BridgeII. As i said earlier, it’s certainly the best I’ve heard - miles ahead of Roon. Roon sounds boring in comparison - less detail and reduced soundstage both in width and depth. I recently switched to Audirvana which gives me improvements in detail and soundstage but Maestro has all the detail and soundstage I’m getting with Audirvana but just sounds nicer - less “digital”. To me it seems a layer of background noise has been removed. It’s a bit like the effect you get when you’re listening to music and your next door neighbour whose been mowing the lawn turns off the motor mower
Went to the Maestro website. Downloaded the Windows version. Malwarebytes warned me to not go there. I went anyway. I downloaded and installed it. It started up by going to the Maestro website instead of being an App. I created an account and the app appeared. It asked a few questions including my Qobuz username and password. Then it took me on a tour.
My windows machine plays through my Bacch4MacBook Pro setup. I picked an album, hit play, and wonderful sound is coming out of my speakers. Yes sir, with the Bacch processing. It seems nice.
Very easy setup, getting Qobuz working instantly.
Nice looking interface!
The Tour was ideal. It showed a depth of features that exceeds my expectations.
It seems so very simple, the absolute opposite of Audirvana. Hooray!
Took less than 5 minutes from download to end of tour to playing my music.
Maestro definitely supports UPnP renderers. In fact, UPnP/DLNA is a discovery service built not almost every renderer (streamer) and is how devices announce themselves on the network. They have specific ways they want to connect and yes, absolutely Maestro connectes with them.
Excellent! Thanks everyone for the patience you showed. Probably still some tweaks we’ll need. Do remember if you tried before the latest update, 10.4.3, to quit the app, restart, get rid of whatever you had scanned before and start fresh.
I’ll be tightening up and tweaking the UI this weekend. So, do occasionally quite and reopen to see any f the changes.
It seems fantastic from what I’ve used so far, especially the Prism feature (upsampling and tap) once it’s ready to be released in May. The only thing that isn’t working for me is the bookmark synchronization with Qobuz—not even 1/3 of the albums are showing up.
Thanks so much for this kind note and thanks for trying Maestro! Keep us in the loop as things progress and we’ll keep working to make it better, and better.
