Audiophile switch

#1

Just received my custom made audiophile switch. An HP 1810 modified switch was made for me by Pink Faun (http://www.pinkfaun.nl/portal/) for approx. 950 euro.

The following mods were made:

  • metal casing with isolation feet
  • a heavy passive regulated power supply unit
  • a Pink Faun power cable
  • a rhodium fuse
  • a Furutech IEC connectors

Interesting.

I reckon that for this price the HP 1810-8G v2 Switch (J9802A) is included?

Do you have a picture of the rear side?

The price of the 1810-8G v2 Switch (your own choice) is not included. You can choose your own switch.

The back of the casing:

Thanks.

I found these alternatives, however I am not sure if none of them are EOL:

My search was primarily filtered on smart/full management, GB copper, 8 port without PoE and fanless from HP.

I also would like to avoid a wall wart.

I think none of these are metallic housing.

Wow sure hope you hear difference with your $1400.00 switch…

These switches are a bit cheaper on eBay: HP 1810-8G v2 switch on eBay Suitable metal cases can be bought in DIY shops (rather cheap). That leaves only the linear power supply.

I have a 24-port version which is a bit more expensive, but it’s got a metal case already: HP 1810-8G v2 switch on eBay However it’s got a built-in power supply.

The difference in sound quality using my audiophile switch is most apparent with high resolution (PCM 24) recordings. I am also going to buy a audio PC with linear PSU and (very short) high end Audioquest network cables.

The big question of course is: is USB streaming better than / worse than network streaming? I don’t know…

How about building one that also encompass your router (with external antennas)?

I don’t use my ADSL router anymore for my audio streaming. My PC streams to the audiophile switch and from there the network frames are layer 2 switched to the PS Audio Bridge.
