This isnā€™t really an answer to your question, but putting a Matrix X-SPDIF 2 ( Matrix Audio - X-SPDIF 2 (matrix-digi.com)) in my system made a much bigger difference than the Corning USB 3.Optical cable did. People also advise all manner of further improvements for the Matrix (external power supplies, cable upgradesā€¦) but those can be incremental improvements depending on your budget, etc. ( Matrix X-SPDIF 2 - Accessories and Tweaks - PS Audio)
