# Direcstream and volume settings question

I’ve noticed some interesting behavior on the [Directstream](https://www.psaudio.com/products/directstream-dac/). I have the volume set all the way up to 100, and the volume control in [roon](https://roonlabs.com/) which I use for playback is set to “fixed.” I’m using a microRendu into the Directstream’s USB input. I thus control the volume of playback through my preamp, an Aesthetix Janus. I then noticed that whenever I mute the volume on my macbook…where [roon](https://roonlabs.com/) is running with fixed volume and playback volume/muting controlled by the Janus…the volume on the Direcstream mutes and I have to go to the Direcstream remote and increase the volume and the volume comes back on set to 58 after which I have to return it 100. Each time. What gives?
