Could be. The difference between Low and High attenuator is striking though. The noise is loud,even.from the seating position a few feet back. I cant remember hearing this when the unit was new. But maybe Im wrong. Mostly ran Low. Im actually thinking of replacing the unit with a Mcintosh C2700. Just because I kind of miss the sound from my old trusty C2500.

So I’m going to buy a McIntosh C2700 preamp. Im going to keep the Directstream for now, to use as a DAC and compare to the built-in DA2 DAC in the McIntosh.
