I’ve seen this guys videos before. He has a great ear IMO. He really seems to nail it.
In his opinion, in his system.
He is running Class D amplification too… I have had a mix in here, and there is a difference in sound characteristics between these amp classes. Just my experience, especially with streaming and streamers.
I love my WiiM streamers, I have all three. I just installed the LHY Battery Power Supply on my Pro+ out to an external DAC… Katy bar the door! This was not a subtle improvement, this was a night and day improvement. Across the board improvement, it was immediate when hitting the play button. And yes, we did a blind A/B test, using a LHY Linear Power Supply and the LHY Battery Power Supply with the WiiM Pro and Pro+. Same Blue Jeans digital coax cables, out to my ToneWinner AD-1PRE+ DAC/preamp with dual coaxial inputs and the ability to shift on the fly.
And quite honestly, a blind test was not needed, it was that much of an improvement. Both of us, it was immediate, the jaws hitting the deck. This LHY battery unit, 5v 2 amps I believe, the one with the blue batteries… The best $120 I have spent in quite awhile. The batteries last all day, I easily had 10 hours of up time with it.
Here is the model number to the battery power supply for the WiiM units, the LHY “LT3042 5V 2A”
I paid $120.15 delivered to Detroit, shipping was free via DHL and took around 6 days from a seller on AliExpress… The Yanjing Store… I paid with PayPal.
If you like the WiiM streamers, pick one or two of these battery power supply units up, you will not be disappointed.
I use airlens via i2s but wonder how rs 130 sounds with DS mk2?..
I have that combo and love it. Sounds excellent. A few here have sold off everything and gone to MU2. Its a bit out of my range. I did not pay list for either of the units.
Does the RS 130 sound better than the AirLens in your system?
TIA.
I use an Innuos Zenith mklll with USB. I like it because it replaces the laptop directly i.e. local storage. Light years ahead of the laptop. I recommend Innuos highly.
Oops. I neglected to mention I moved from generic WIN11 laptop using USB.
I’m also use AL, it replaced aurender n200. But may be rs130 even better in terms of bass and body
A bit of history here. I was swapping streamers like crazy in my old room and that was over 2 years ago as I moved and it took 15mo to build my new room.
That being said I swapped in and out the Stack Link II, Red, Airlens and Eversolo all in a few months. I settled in on the Eversolo. The Airlens was very good, but not really better than Eversolo with the MKII. USB is fine with MKII. Airlens has many other limitations and the Eversolo has much better software. All those streamers are in what I would call the same price category. All very very good streamers. I retuned the Airlens within the 30 days as it was more than the others with less features. For those with MKI or need I2S, its a must.
Move forward 15 months, and now I have room set, I started at the get go with RS130. Yes quit a bit more. Got a deal on new one for 4200. 4x price of the A6 I had. I did compare those two one on USB and one on I2S and the Rose was more open and wider soundstage. I stopped after I heard that…had to justify my spending in some way right
I know sound is not the only upgrade with RS130, the screen is absolutely amazing and touch is great. Now their streaming software leaves much to desire. I would almost go as far as saying POS. I use it to remote shut down Rose, that’s about it. Tried to use it to stream hard drive I put in, so awkward to use. If you plan on using the native software, I would steer someone to Aurlic instead.
Fair to say the AirLens is second to the RS 130 due to features, as opposed to overall sound quality…?
Don’t mean to make you try to sex angels on the head of a pin…
Rather, I have an AirLens and I use it with Roon/Qobuz and JRiver Media Center, and I am on the lookout for my next, better SOUNDING streaming hardware.
Thank you, again.
I found all the ones I listed to be very similar in sound. nothing stood out and said I have to have this one. All were good. Red, Stack, and Airlens all used others software. Not many configuration options. Red was a DDC too which saved me a box. I use a DDC to run my Laptop software for creating a convolution filter for Roon. It does not see MKII for some reason (yes I have updated the usb driver..software issue). it was just easier to keep an old matrix around for that purpose. But they all were in same SQ category to my ears in my system in my old room. I only have comparison to Eversolo directly with RS130. The 130 is better. As it should be for 4x cost of eversolo and 2x as much as Airlens.
10-4.
Thank you for the clarification.
Scott
Absolutely agree 1000%.
I really liked the pairing of DS MK2 and Lumin U2 using USB cable. The SQ was a huge jump over my previous Euphony Summus 2. I just want to throw it out there for consideration for MK2 owners. They use their own software, but it is Roon ready as well.
Donald, do you have a recollection of your “best” pairing of a streamer/streamer-server with the MK I?
Euphony Summus 2 has a dedicated i2s HDMI that paired with MK1 perfectly. However, I still found the SQ to be subpar compared to even regular CDs. The DSD256 sounded too dark also. I didn’t try other streamers with HDMI output (there’re more choices now than three years ago). With MK1 i2s is the only connection I would consider,
10-4.
Thank you.
last week on vacation, i told my wife how much i missed listening to my system, she said I could go home and listen anytime. some people are heartless.
