What a fantastic space!
Welcome back, as it has been a very long time.
I do not see a Gryphon Power Zone 3.10 or 3.20 in your images.
Mine is due for pick-up later this week.
BTW, that is a most fine listening space, most envious.
I hate when proper adults post pictures of their systems. It always shames me to my core.
My old school design diffusers pale in comparison to yours. Got to get 3D, then, back to the wood shop!
It took many years to put this CD diffuser array together, and I have one behind each speaker.
For the last few years I gradually replaced all the plastic CDs with paper SACDs, now they are over 80% (not all SACD came with paper boxes) and I believe they improved the SQ further. The hard part is every so often they would be flatten by other family member who doesnât believe such thing. Maintaining their effectiveness has become my morning routine ![]()
Okay, I was not dead serious about this, But I swearâŚâŚ
@straightwire
Understand there are (8) 3ft X 3ft skyline diffusers I had to build and paint. The picture is only one of the 3ft X 3ft diffusers. This is a serious time sink black hole project. The 8ft X 8ft floating treatment above the room sweet spot was (8) 2ft X 4ft treatments integrated with only boundaries secured to the ceiling trusts. It has not sagged (not even a 1/4in) in over a year and weighs over 250lbs. I had it built on the floor and wife was like: âhow are you going to raise that to the 12ft ceiling. You are going to need 5 guys w/ laddersâŚâ. I told her give me a few hours and it will be secured to ceiling.
Here is how I integrated the (8) treatments and raised the floating treatment and secured it to ceiling by myself. I love being challenged.
I called her into the music room after an hour and she was like WTF! If you notice - no inner supports for future sagging so you better have an incredible solid structure.
Also / the theater curtains were built in CA at a shop that specializes in theater drapes. They are the thickest commercial drapes made with the thickest blackout backing sewn into them. They weigh over 100lbs and were hard to hang. I built the track with premium runners and wood structure. They are very effective with the duel sliders and transom windows and allow access to a 25ft X 15ft X 12ft covered patio we stream movies on 75in flat screen. Since we have western exposure in back yard, I installed a serious remote controlled sun screen
Forgot - my wife tried to get me to do video in my 2 channel music room. If you notice, her chair is not in the sweet spot. My music room and my rules. OK one exception: I covered the tiny windows w/ diffuser treatments and a man got to know his limitations⌠that was like - NFW that is going to happen so yeah - I caved, so sue me
@aangen
Systems are about listening and I have stolen many ideas from posts on this site and that includes ideas from you. We share to help others develop ideas and everyone benefits from the sharing. I love this site and all that share openly. I try to help all that participate; however, I steal shamelesslyâŚ.![]()
So, thank you everyone for helping my thievery, right back a youâŚ
Thanks for the details. I understand the seriousness of the undertaking, especially the diffusers. It takes a ton of hours, and must be a labor of loveâŚmostly.
Enjoyed this beauty in the Explorer lounge of a recent cruise, enjoying some live classical/jazz⌠think itâs a Diz (Rodrigues) replica. I was in a$$vana.
Can you give me the name of that theater drape shop? I may have an application
This is the perfect reason for multiple kitchen islands! Fantastic diffuser!
@paul172 - OK, so the small table is now gone and replaced by a 9ft custom championship billard table. Need to have a table between kitchen and 85in flat screen. Yes, that is a Sonus Arc⌠There is 6+ft around the table so no short sticks needed.
A belated thank you. I missed your reply until today.
@minnesotafats - they were amazing to work with. Bought the custom drapes and track infrastructure. It was a pleasure from initial questions to receiving the product.
@Paul video today is about the listening chair. On my current room I have been pondering a solution for the longest time. I use a sectional since the room doubles as a TV room but my ears are at least 12âlower than my tweeters (IRS Beta).
I have thought of raising the sectional or getting an âeasy to move chairâ for my listening (which is 90% of the use of the room. I have not identified a high enough chair which is not a bar stool type. I have various original and replica MCM lounge chairs which I love but are too low.
The chair I find is perhaps higher is the Poang but it feels somewhat flimsy. Suggestions?
My tweeters (not the supertweeters) are at 55â off the floor.
There are a lot of suggestions here. Herman Miller Eames, Stressless, are well liked.
I havenât found a match. My adequate chair is up on blocks, literally, to accommodate high
tweeters like you.
Have a real and a copy Eames which are too low. There is a copy out there which is taller. I calculate I need (a minimum) seat height of 20â for better alignment.
I have not put the sectional on blocks (yet) but i use a couple of tall cushionsâŚ.
Thanks for taking the time.
I LOVE the look of that chair, but then I did an image search and found out the price. ![]()
