After your electrical problems solved by your touch, the electricians money you saved, can be used for vinyl purchases. :grinning:

Ha! Well, it would be better to just “save” the savings. I dissolved my last financial holding in order to pay off all our debts. We’re debt free, I also did all possible repairs and upgrades to our cars, and that’s great. But I have very little in the bank and need to scale back in audio purchases, both hardware and software.

Which theoretically is possible with little problems as I have fantastic systems and more recordings that I could possibly listen to over and over again. I’ve been really bad in that sense. But. . . it’s like addictive behavior I am going to have to overcome, with large effort.

It can morph from a hobby to an addiction.

Up for this particular Okka Disk LP release featuring AIR bassist Fred Hopkins. To my ear Peter channels the spirit of Albert Ayler on this fine Atlanta live set.

Yes, for me it became one a long time ago when I both stopped practicing and playing out with others, and stopped smoking and put all my cigarette money aside to be used for musical purposes. So it’s about a 35 year addiction.

I know this is a music thread but I will reply to describe my hifi addiction:
My former sports car collection is now my hifi system.
And “want” too easily becomes “need”. And so it goes. (Thanks K.V.)

Starting off a fairly warm morning–36 degrees–with a bit of Brazilian breeze, Eliane Elias “Dance of Time” Concord cd.

Ms Elias is such a fine piano player. And this is a very modern recording, full and rich.

I had a nice dinner last night with the older of my two brothers who is undergoing a crisis I have the experience to help him with–I admit it was nice to be the older brother giving advice and a listening ear.

On to

Miles in France – Miles Davis Quintet 1963/64: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8 disc 5

Perhaps not the greatest sound but very listenable, and the music is . . . riveting, for me. This disc is with Wayne Shorter from October 1964.

The most recent release from the Medieval vocal specialist group Graindelavoix. Medieval polyphony is amazing to hear. I don’t understand anything about it, and apparently Graindelavoix take a pretty radical approach to this music. Very interesting music, really well recorded.

The Booby Jaspar All Stars Band is yet one more fine re-issue from the French Sam Records label. Hopefully Fred Thomas continues mining and releasing jazz gems.

The Miles in France is another page in the MDQ cannon, which I am surprised remained in the vaults for so long.

Honestly not the first listen for today, as that would have been Ahmad Jamal Happy Moods, which fulfills some piano lounge need. The above, [ahmed] Giant Beauty - Oud Blues is more akin to something I’d expect at Chicago’s punk/indie club Empty Bottle. Not an easy listen, but probably not in the mood for an aural assault on a Monday morning. I listened to Nights on Saturn from the same box set and am still struggling with it. Noise Jazz, hmmm….

I may just have to purchase the digital files. CDs are completely unavailable.

Ralph Sutton “LIVE” Nagel-Hayer cd

BRIAN OGLIVIE tenor sax, clarinete
MARTY GROSZ, guitar, vocal
DAVE GREEN bass
FRANK CAPP, drums

Recorded live at the Hanse-Merkur Auditorium,Hamburg, on October 9, 1999.

This one doesn’t seem to be so out of place following the Sutton. It has been too long since I brought some energetic Tania Maria music into my room. I love this woman! What a talent!

Tania Maria “Outrageously Wild” Concord 2 cd set, disc 1 which reissues “The Real Tania Maria: Wild! - Live At The Grand American Music Hall”

Sam Records. Great album, excellent sound.

I’ve bought that material about five times, most recently the excellent SHM-SACD from Japan. It is a fantastic original recording which shines every time it is released. And great music.

A recent addition to my collection Getz/Gilberto, this being the Impex One Step pressing. Nice quiet and flat vinyl. A Bernie Grundman mastering. Sounds great!

Listening to the Antwerp concert this morning. The Lorraine material is easier to listen to first thing in the morning than some of his earlier music, slower paced, gentle.
