I still remember the surprise and delight to meet Ravi Shankar when he visited my boarding school in M’Babane, where I had his young cousin as a roommate.

A muggy morning. . . at least the rain has stopped for a spell.
Now I’m on to a very spirited live recording of Ellington music by a modern big band.

This morning heat wave seams to have past!
normally here up north, when we asked what we do in the summer?
we use to answer: that weekend we go to the beach!
but as year goes, summer seams to be hotter and longer! and more humidity, that i could not stand!
so still a week of hot days and cool night, that is perfect!
Starting the day with a CD from the mother (82 alzheimer) of a friend who past away! We met and he gave me a full box of mixed music!
It appear, we are entering the zone where we (my bunch of friend from the college) started to lose some family and relative! another sort of sixties for us!
It’s sort of school project, but fun to listen!

A stuffy morning. Had a nice dinner out last night and then fun hanging with Tobi the dog once we got home. First day without rain at all in a while! Now a quiet still morning, I love these mornings.

I am enjoying this set more than I expected, especially with the subtle sonic improvement of listening to it with “Phase” reversed (“Out”) on my DAC.
first night of rain, huge humidity, but could not complain, heatwave strike hard in the last day, but was cool at night, today still heat but with humidity!

Wife and I want to experience live classical concert, she loves that pianist
So, two tickets in the mezzanine level 3, we arrived early, only the two of us sitting on the mezzanine, spooky, the rest auditorium is full (floor and second mezzanine), except mezzanine level 3 is empty except us!
suddenly, a biker arrived and sat, then another one, then another one, finally we are me and my wife, the only non biker on the mezzanine level 3!
We are there waiting for the show, with all the bikers! on level 3, in a classical concert hall!
than the biker on my left, said to me, don’t worry, it’s not a rock concert! laughing and ask why you choose those places, our answer: “the only available!”
Wow guy, he said to his team: “did you hear that, it’s sold out!”
And than he explains me that the music we are going to ear, is avant garde classical and was composed by one of there friend when in jail on substance!
my wife looks at me puzzle???, in my head: “ok we are now in another sort of classical ball game!”
and than concert started the orchestra sit, the concert pianist arrived, explain that the music is going to play is to open mind of people and proof that classical music could evolve and come from different places sometimes than the usual!
That night was a bumpy ride of a concert, but we enjoyed the concert with bikers!
Who knew! those places for the concert didn’t sell and we buy them, bonus, we sat at the best place on the mezzanine right in the meddle, best sound, best acoustic, and very joyful group around us! very polite and very expressive, never been in a concert where are people are so quiet to listen the music! all they did when it quiet down, it a huge schuuuuuuuut and ppl downstair look up the third level and with respect they quiet down! I we could hear a mosquito playing violin before the show began!
It was a very immersive experience and I think me & my wife, were with the guy around us, really feel the composition ambiance of the composer! and that realize the music is universal and great composer only need inspiration to do music! whatever the kind!
never seen the CD version of that concert, but here 2 very mild music to start the morning!
After we excuse ourselves to the guy, you know: kids, we have to go home, babysitter waiting for us, she has school tomorrow, we are sorry and thank you for your invitation to meet the composer!
When home, my wife said to me, maybe it wasn’t representative of what a classical concert is!
I start laughing and said, music is universal, and for everyone, but yes I think most of them was also there first experience to a classical concert!
A recent release Monk Live in Paris 1967 Vol. 1 . For a 1967 live recording the sound is fine indeed, a 2002 Rudy Van Gelder digital remastering. All four pieces are excellent with the 14 plus minute Evidence being a standout to these ears. I am looking forward to Volume 2. This live set includes the Thelonious Monk Quartet: Charlie Rouse, Larry Gales, and Ben Riley. Joining the Quartet are Johnny Griffin, Phil Woods, Jimmy Cleveland, and Ray Copeland. Starting off today with some Benny Goodman, “The Alternate Takes in Chronological Order Volume 3 1938-1939” Neatwork cd
Now on to the thirty first release by Eliane Elias, “Time and Again” on Candid cd. This differs from other releases by consisting of songs written by Elias and Marc Johnson, and I really like it. Breezy and upbeat for the most part, I really revel in the feeling it imparts, as both the idios and koinos kosmos are rather darker and grimmer than these bright melodic musings are. I need the lift.
