I put up my 4 GIK 244s. All my treatments thus far have been sitting on the floor. Amazing what putting treatments in the proper position will do. Have a few more pieces to go before everything’s finally mounted in their designated positions.
About twenty years ago I was in CT with work (and it was bloomin’ freezing!).
I saw five minutes of the superbowl, only time I’ve ever seen it.
Janet Jackson had a “wardrobe malfunction” in that five minutes.
The press response as I recall was kinda odd
Posted this in the Jazz thread as well. . .
Bobby Gordon Quartet Featuring Adele Girard Marsala “Don’t Let it End” Arbors Jazz cd
Recreating the unique sound of the Joe Marsala units that featured his harpist, his wife, Adele Marsala. I’m a Bobby Gordon fan and this is another of his excellent releases on Arbors.
Photos would be nice once you’re set!
Having heard a bit of this on NPR’s 1A this morning, I popped this CD in for a listen. My wife has been a Gershwin fan since her school days. With time she has won me over. Her other musical passion from her childhood school days is Scott Joplin. So possibly Joshua Rifkin as a starter tomorrow.
I pulled a few Lambert, Hendricks & Ross and Annie Ross discs from the shelves as I had not heard them in a while.
First up this Columbia 2 cd set that reissues their three Columbia LPs. Disc 1. . . starts off so well with the Ike Isaacs Trio and Harry “Sweets” Edison.
“The Hottest New Group in Jazz”
Followed by
Another master vocalist
Joao Gilberto “Joao” Verve cd
“O Mito.” What can you say. . . silk and gentle breezes and nice orchestration by Clare Fischer. So soothing.
Jean-Michel Proust “Until it’s Time for You to Go”
Even if his two volumes “For Barney” weren’t enough of a clue Proust definitely was influenced and seems to adore Barney Wilen. That’s okay with me–I adore him too.
This is a nice French-flavored quintet session.
I need to seek that one out,
Finishing up my late night listen, The Keith Jarret Trio Tokyo '96. It is an exceptional performance by The Standards Trio. Then moving on to Barney Wilen La Ca: New York Romance, as mentioned by Lonson on a different thread.
Following up with yesterday morning’s Barney Wilen theme, Jean-Michel Proust For Barney Wilen Vol. 1. A pleasant early morning listen. The send track’s catchy Sometime Ago is perky and fun.
Starting tomorrow I’ll be at the Florida audio expo. I predict the first music of the day I’ll hear - every day - will be Diana Krall.
If that’s the case take it easy on the breakfast.
Seriously though, have a good time and please share with us your thoughts and “high points” from the show. Maybe you’d start a new dedicated thread.
If you’re a good boy maybe they’ll rotate in some Patricia Barber as well.
……….
Although to be fair, I like them both, but there’s only so much repetition of anybody anyone can take at these shows, year after year.
Calvin Keys “Standard Keys”
A really nice live session.
Getting an early start after dealing with last night’s snow fall. Bright, cheery and energetic Caldera, with the Sam Rivers Trio. The 6th track Improvisation II is downright funky in a downtown Bill Laswell way. Helluva CD!
Clark Terry “Color Changes” Candid cd 2022 (stereo)
Perhaps a unique session in Terry’s discography, a bit different in instrumentation and arrangement than others.
Bill Evans “Live at the Keystone Korner Vol. 5” Solid Records cd Japan
followed by
Joe Turner “Complete Boss of the Blues” Bear Family 2 cd set, cd 1 (stereo)
