First music of the day

Lon, can you give me a catalog number for the shm-cd? Is this the version you have?

I have: UCCU-5994

Thank you!

A really cool morning! Fall is in the air, though 80 degrees are due later this week. The kitchen cabinets will be finished today. . . and then the long wait for the countertops begins.

Starting off with an old favorite in a new “light”–Miles Davis “Miles in Berlin” Blu-Spec CD2, disc 2 (the original German “stereo” release remastered)

The only drawback really is that this does not have the delightful “Stella by Starlight” released later.

Now I flipped to disc 1, the mono release, for track 4, “Stella by Starlight”–one of my favorite renditions of this movie theme.

Albert Ayler Going Home, a recent Japanese LP reissue I picked up recently from Dusty Groove. Spiritual and moving. This has been reissued many times, also known as Swing Low Sweet Spiritual. The Japanese pressing is quiet flat and most clear.

The nice and cool calm before it gets hot today.

Airto “Natural Feelings” Japan cd

Airto’s work of this time period is fascinating to me. (This was recorded in 1970). This group of musicians work so well together! Hermeto brings his magic here.

Bass – Ron Carter
Guitar – Sivuca
Percussion, Vocals – Airto Moreira
Piano, Organ, Harpsichord, Flute – Hermeto
Vocals – Flora Purim

Gabor Szabo “Rambler” CTI 50th Anniversary King cd

Makes me think of the Garcia band.

Followed by this box set, first time to hear the new remaster of the masterpiece that is “Hejira.”

Joni Mitchell “Asylum Albums 1976-1980)”

If I had to live with just three Joni albums it would be three in this set: “Hejira,” “Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter” and “Mingus.”

Anat Cohen Claroscuro, easy on the ears.

Whew! Another cool morning. Flipped the heat on . . . it works!
