I know this subject has been raised before, and I have trawled through the threads, but cannot find an answer to my own situation.

Today I became a proud owner of a DirectStream DAC. If was very easy to set up and, in fact, just worked. CD wasn’t a problem using digital co-ax. However, when streaming to the Network Bridge, I just couldn’t find a way to play gapless.

I’m using a Synology streamer with MinimServer, and the Mconnect HD app on my ipad. Mconnect has gapless options for ‘app’ and ‘renderer’. I’ve tried invoking both, separately and in combination, but no gapless ensues.

If anyone can assist, it would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Not sure if you bought this unit new or used, but if you bought used and it came with Bridge I then it will not play gapless. Having said that it would be an unusual situation to have a Bridge I in a DS; Bridge II was released about three years ago and many people traded theirs in to get gapless playback which was a major annoyance to Bridge I users.

If you bought the DS new and got the Bridge at the same time it will be a Bridge II (it will say “Bridge II” to the right of the network connection jack) then the issue with gapless must be in MinimServer. There are no user adjustments to Bridge II. I’m not a user of MinimServer so if that is where the issue lies someone else can provided assistance.

I just checked my MinimServer properties and did not find any option regarding enabling gapless playback.
I run BubbleUPnP and that is where I enable gapless playback, if you have a a Bridge One I do not think that it was able to perform gapless playback.

It was a all new unit, received today. I used to get gapless using MinimServer with my previous streamer, a Cyrus Stream X Signature. I have gapless enabled in Mconnect, hence my confusion. I use iOS so Bubble Upnp isn’t available.

Should be a Bridge II which does gapless. While I don’t use MinimServer I did a quick search and it too should play gapless. Not sure what to tell you. Perhaps someone will see this and reply since we couldn’t answer.

I don’t use it regularly but I have minimserver and Bubbleupnp Server installed on an old PC (to make it Open Home compatible). I control it with the Lumin iPad app. I don’t recall having to set anything for gapless play but I do get gapless. Not sure what to suggest here.

My setup is the same as you with PWD Senior + Bridge II. Running a minimserver on a Synology NAS as the library and using BubbleUPNP as the control. BubbleUPNP has already enabled Gapless option but playing Gapless album still having a very short stop. Hope somebody can help on this issue. Thanks.

</div>

Just to confirm the point already made. For several years I have used Minimserver controlled by BubbleUPnP exclusively for playing music. Never had any problem with gapless. I understand that Minimserver was written with playback of classical music as a priority (where gapless playback is essential for opera etc etc).

</div>

I just tried BubbleUPnP on my android phone (with gapless option checked) to play from QNAP NAS running MinimServer to Bridge II and found that playback was not truly gapless. There is a tiny blip that most people would probably never notice unless their attention was drawn to it. As my music library is 99.9% classical, gapless is important to me, and my Aurender X100L streamer delivers that from its internal discs via USB.

I suggest you post this problem on the Minimserver forum.

I doubt that Minimserver is at fault. I have a Cambridge Audio streamer that is able to play gapless perfectly from the same NAS unit that Bridge II is accessing.

OK point taken, however Simon may be able to help as over several years I’ve noticed he has given helpful suggestions on specific hardware being used with Mimserver.
I’m using a Synology DS412+ NAS

Actually, doing further tests with the Cambridge Audio streamer and MinimServer using either the BubbleUPnP app or the AudioNet app, it performed gapless playback very badly with obvious breaks that nobody could ignore. It’s only by using Cambridge Audio’s own Cambridge Connect app that perfect gapless playback is obtained. I think it’s doing look-ahead buffering.

I’m using Minimserver on a Melco as well as a Synology and invoke gapless through the MConnect app. There are two settings, I just set them both.

I had just tried Mconnect to replace the BubbleUPNP. The gapless was working fine when I played with the latest Album of the Carpenters with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. But I found another problem that is the App will be freezed by my OnePlus 6 Andriod phone after let it idle for a long while. That means the gapless problem is related to the control app.

This may not be relevant, but do you have the latest version of BubbleUPnP installed?
Mine did an auto update a couple of months ago.

My Android tablet is running 3.1.2 from Bubblesoft.
It states that gapless playback is " potentially supported".
I also run BubbleServer on my SonicTransporter i5 along with MinimServer.

I have already used the latest BubbleUPNP and the latest DAC & bridge 2 firmwares. Everything are used the latest versions.
