Oh do it anyway.

Sooner or later I probably will try, and it seems that you already knew🤔

Three weeks since 3.10 install and pure enjoyment. I’m not experiencing any brightness with mine. Live recordings especially recorded in small venues have been taken to a new level with the PZ!

Glad to share with you members, a few answers I just received from Paul Hafner about the arguments previously mentioned in my post above.

  • About break in process:

I would like to add to your comments that you might not get bored in time, on the contrary. After getting rid of the unwanted limitations of your system, a natural presentation with a realistic dynamic contrast should keep you better connected to your music.
The 'WOW factor" is not provided by your system, but by your favorite music delivered unspoiled,

  • Regarding the DC offset and EMI pollution

I would encourage you to test any power conditioner, but with utmost care on the downsides. Most of them mostly ruin the experience. The most dangerous upgrade is the one that brings you 1 step up and 2 steps down. Also, the step up should be in the right direction.
The Powerzone was not designed to reduce the DC pollution or the EMI, but the star grounding might help.
Did you connect your devices to the ground on the back of the unit?
Concerning the measurements, please keep in mind that you are using 2D instruments that only show you a narrow perspective on what is going on.

  • General thoughts/conclusions

I would check the resulting sound, as being much more important than any measured distortion. Your ears are the best instrument.
It is much more difficult to stop a stream of water than to channel it to the least detrimental outcome.
Energy can only be transformed, so unwanted energy should be helped to leave our systems fast and with the least possible influence.

Hope you find these answers of your interest, my friends!

Paul probably represents the camp, as does Matjes from Farad, as well as Schnerzinger, with whom I spoke, that a good power supply without filters or generators causes the least damage to music. Star grounding of the power supply is often mentioned as helpful. I haven’t experimented with separate grounding yet. My question is how do I best accomplish this? With a Puritan grounding system? My Farad power supply and my Furutech Vault have a ground connection. How do I do this with the amplifier, preamplifier, etc. Do I need cables for grounding with appropriate connections such as RCA plugs, Lan to connect all components. Do I just go to the grounding post of the power strip or do I also need a conductor to the grounding network like the Puritan Grandcity? Greetings Andreas

Following Puritan and CAD recommendations, even though their products operate in different manners, you have to consider a fundamental differentiation between:

  • Signal ground
  • Earth (mains) ground

There is general consensus on the theory of separating the two types of connections.

“Signal” is usually star grounded connecting unused outputs ports (RCA, XLR, BNC, USB, RJ45 too) of the components. Where all the devices should be connected to? Usually each brand has its own solution: GC1 or GC3 for CAD, Route Master for Puritan, Nordost, Shunyata etc etc have their boxes.

“Earth” is usually intended for connection (unscrewing something or via a specific ground lug, if any) from the chassis of the devices and the ground lug of the conditioner/power strip where they are plugged in.

Don’t have time to read it yet. But I’ll try to connect GM City to PZ by itself again later. I have connected all other components to RM+GM City as a separate ground syst. I should not connect PZ to it too.

I may get something else for the PZ by itself if I don’t hear improvement.

Still enjoying paradise this week🏌🏽‍♂️

Paul Hafner doesn’t recommend a ground connection to PZ lug if already present another box connected directly to mains ground (like the GM City). One or the other, not both of them.

Thanks, that is good to know.

My ears sort of conforming that since I didn’t care for the sound when I connected City to it. Instead of cleaning the sound I heard more grey background.

I have done lots to eliminate gray background coloring. Many high end systems have this along with great images. The grey distracts me. It isn’t present at symphony but sometimes heard IRL at amplified concerts. I vote it has no place in my listening.

Day #16. What a EMI sniffer meter can drive an OCD audiophile crazy!

As said before, I plugged back the Puritan into a spare wall socket (without any cable in it) just because I was measuring a better value from my EMI sniffer.

Today I tried to unplug the Puritan from the wall, even though the EMI meter is confirming a worst value in mV. Oh damn this little stuff!
I can hear a better sound, period. Voices crystal clear and natural, a clean and natural image… so beautiful.

Conclusion, let the PowerZone do its job exclusively and it’ll make you happy. Other things are simply mind masturbation!

Back to music, that is still growing and growing in its beauty, fidelity and effortlessness. I’m loving it every day more!

Less is more, once again. Thanks for the dirty power report. My line might exceptionally bad, but I’m in no hurry to clean it up and stifle the sound of the PZ.

Next week I’m going to receive a Schnerzinger Grid Protector

I talked about it with Paul Hafner, he didn’t know it and he encouraged me to give it a try and report him my thoughts about it.

My plan is letting the PowerZone alone in the chain to rule everything and if current pollution must be considered I just want to attack this problem upstream and separatly from the components connected one to each other. Time will tell.

If the Grid Protector works for you even half as well as I experienced it at Schnerzinger in their development room, you will be thrilled. I will also borrow a Grid Protector as soon as possible to experience the effect in my system. Greetings Andreas

Fascinating, Luca! They obviously don’t sell direct, as I didn’t see any prices on their website. What is the recommended retail price in Europe?

I look forward to hearing your impressions, Luca and Andreas.

Cheers

Phil

This is quite interesting. I like that it’s totally passive and not in the electrical path to the gear. If it improves the sound of the system, it will probably also make the environment of your home healthier for you as well as it’s neutralizing the harmful effects of EMI and RFI.

You’re ruining my vacation, and I hope the GP will do worse than Puritan😆

Good to know I don’t need to bring Puritan back to audio room from TV room, sigh.
