Gryphon PowerZone

For me I never experienced any sadness. Out of the box it was a major improvement. And it just kept improving. My jaw was on the floor every listening session for three weeks straight. No other addition was similar.
But M700s weren’t part of the system.
What a massive leap your system took!

Thanks to you and this forum I felt confident enough to spend much more, and faster, than I ever thought I would on a HiFi system. Little did I know when I bought a pair of FR20s that that was just the start.

The PZ I have is on trial. I’m told it is new but I suspect not.

Whatever, the sound I get from the wall to the PZ with my large active system is very good albeit with a very flat image which means that it is easy to hear the words. If I put the eight power cords into a P10 the image is more holographic, which I like, but admit that words aren’t as easy to hear. If I power the PZ from a P10 with nothing else attached to the P10 the image is not quite as flat as with the PZ from the wall, it seems to be a merge of the two. These are my initial findings. I may have to return the PZ today (or buy it), if it wasn’t such a flat image I’d probably not hesitate as it certainly is very good. Being in the UK I can get away with using PS Audio AC5 power cables throughout (so no need to spend thousands of pounds on a single cable). It’s a shame that one of my P10s seems to have degraded in performance as it’s not easy to move cables around (due to lengths etc).

No Christmas card for you.

Stealth Cloud 2020s are out for delivery today. Diablo 333 being delivered later this week. PZ has been in hand for a few weeks. I will try to incorporate them into my system incrementally, as you suggest. However, it will be challenging as I’ve sold my P20 “power strip.” Please realize that this is like asking a child at Christmas to open his stocking but wait until New Years Day for the rest. Delayed gratification has never been my long suit:weary_face:.

Exactly my point.

And the PZ is special, even with a CJ tube preamp, and even with a Mark Levinson amp

Break-in, what break-in! Kidding aside, mine took some time to break in, thus I with held comment until I had proper opportunity to asses the impact on my system. No regrets. Those that comment on new gear when fresh out of the box, well I am glad they are happy with the gear, but…
Jumped the gun IMO.

Has anyone ever purchased anything and not been overly pleased with their decision?

What makes you think not? Mine took every bit of 400 hours to settle down. Frankly I’d give it more time.

The dealer loaned me the PZ for 5 days, not three weeks. How do people find the sound changes, e.g. from what to what?

The PZ that a forum member left at my place for 10 days was already burned-in before I listened. There PZ simply made my system better, a lot better.

PZ needs three weeks to break in, but I think it really needs 6 weeks unless it was due to the better whiskey I have been drinking.

IME initially it offered a nice step up from the P15 and the Puritan PSM 156. All I could care for. With time it improved significantly leveraging the strengths of the connected components. As it broke in there were times where it sounded strident and brittle. Other times bass was thin, yet other times bass was slightly bloated. Clearly soundstage was all over the place. For these reasons I held my comments back until its chameleon like behavior settled down. Most happy and an easy recommendation.

My guess is if you do not do it you will regret it down the road. I know of no one who was not ultimately impressed with the PowerZone. I was smitten at the Axpona 2024 demo, signed up on the spot. Al made it easy in organizing a group buy, with a bit of a price adjustment.

Go For It.

I can confirm the ups and downs during break in time. And I received mine after a week in use at my dealer.
Brightness and edginess sometimes appeared. After 2-3 weeks all I can remember was a big smile on my face.

I totally agree on this one my new SF Serafino G2 and Diablo 333 where settled in life was “how good is this” all it took was a Rune trust me with a smile and a PZ to lift the whole system up when you hear it and it settles down you just smile at the improvements it gives - life is good ..

Happy Cake day!

Weedee asked if anyone bought something that they were unhappy with. That’s a big yes for me. The Syn Research Black Tower that does nothing comes to mind. I had my favorite Syn Research dealer come over. He says he heard it. I don’t. He said in my room it made things worse. He sold it for me. Nice!
