Headless windows for music, searching a physical remote to go with WinMedia, any clue?

Good Evening,

I am building a new music windows server with an old PC.

I search a physical remote [wifi or blue tooth], to switch, the song played, when it is not in my mood!

anyone have try one, or could point me in the right direction?

regards

edit:

And since I am re-doing it, and some CD are physically degrading [not playable in CD player], I am ripping them again and discard those bonus track, that should not be there [I hate hearing same song, three times in a row! I’m old and I like my past the way it was, no remaster, no bonus track!

Also, I manage the genre to: Classical; Jazz; Blues; New Acoustic; Holidays; Voices; Country; Ambient and Discard I also hate sub-genre music classification.

you do jazz, If it’s cuban jazz, it is Jazz for me, so no more “chikitapoutpoutapoint”

Here an example: Stan Getz, Serenity, become:

Serenity, at Café Montmartre July 1987, Copenhagen

Enjoy!

thanks

That’ll depend on what playback software you’re using

With respect, and sorry, my mistake, but it was in the title, Win Media 12.

if it work with this one, it will work with all.

Just a simple remote to change track, I use to have one that work with window seven, but it was infrared and you have to use a USB, but it don’t work anymore…

now I guess it is a blue tooth, to keep up computer race

You push play and it start the Window media 12 and skip is for next track

that’s it

Ah, my mistake. I was thinking if you went with a solution like roon or jplay, you could use a tablet as a remote. This seems to be the most common trend with modern playback software. I’m not familiar with Win Media so can’t offer a recommendation there.

I have a headless Mac mini and also a headless PC that I can control using an android phone or another PC. It is called RealVNC and it offers a lite version that does not cost for private use - but they hide that option deep in their website :frowning:

here’s a brief description of how to do it.

  • Control PC/Mac/Linux from Android:

    1. On your Computer: Install a VNC Server (e.g., RealVNC Server or TightVNC), create an account (for RealVNC), and ensure it’s running.

    2. On your Android: Download a VNC Viewer app (like RealVNC Viewer, Remote Ripple, or Alpha VNC) from the Play Store.

    3. Connect: Open the Viewer, add a new connection, enter the host computer’s IP address/name and password to access its desktop.

There are much better ways to control media on a headless PC, but they all require specialized media software that one usually needs to purchase.

Good luck.

for the mac mini, you use accessibility, it easy simple and safe or apple remote

I don’t like app, I prefer a real remote, and Waf prefer remote…!

If I understand you correctly, you want a physical remote? I doubt there is anything out there that serves as a remote to control media player software in a PC. Buy a music server. Whatever.

Pardon me, a brain :exploding_head: fart, my young adult who study computer, send me this:

What you need DaD is a keyboard remote, and i found this!

Cool. That might work but if it is a headless unit you won’t have a monitor to see what you are clicking. I hope your young adult can help you get this all settled.

Agree, but screen is noise. Young adult explain that with windows, I could have a touchscreen?

I found your answer funny, year ago, every one, like phone managing, now everyone, want to see there art cover. It took years for company to understand that! the new wimp have a hdmi output for a screen show!

Enjoy
