I officially quit

An extraordinary display of self-discipline.

Failure (falling down the rabbit hole) resulted in the stop button being pressed. At least I was finally able to stop, lol.

To quote Mark Twain:

I just found out my Medicare premium will go up more than $100 per month in 2026. They said I sold too much stock on audio!

I am quitting!

MediCare B premium increase of 48.8% for 2026, supposedly to fund Tim Noel’s weekend boating adventures.

Reminds me of passages of “The Confessions of Zeno” which began “Today I smoked my last cigarette.”

I long ago lost the point of this thread, so I don’t know if this post will still be relevant, but I think it’s in keeping with my previous comment. No new equipment here, just a refreshed appreciation for what I have: the wife and I returned Saturday from a 10-day trip to Ecuador to visit some friends who’ve become ex-pat retirees in Manglaralto, with a very nice house on the beach and a generous casita on the property for guests. We had a great time, but my only music was from my phone and Cambridge Audio earbuds. So now we’re home, and I just put on the new MoFi reissue of The Doobies’ Minute by Minute, and I realized how profoundly grateful I am for this modest system, which is a good 50% PSA. Nice work, gents.

Better earbuds may make your next visit more enjoyable.

And perhaps a dongle DAC

I want to say I’m at that point after getting my Stellar Phono Preamp. For a while now my next purchase isn’t going to be PS Audio or stereo gear. Thinking about it at the moment it will probably be an Emerald X20 carbon fiber acoustic guitar.

Now watch me soon build a headphone system or get better headphones :joy:

EDIT:

Actually next is acoustic treatment, does that count?

I’m sure it would, but considering 99% of my earbud use is just to pass time in the gym (and occasionally on planes), these ones are plenty good enough for my needs.

Just think how much better that 99% could be!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder…and the Hi-Fi sound better.

Cheers.

My Asia trip is coming up in a few days, this is the second time we are going to Japan within this year. But we are going to Hokkaido for the first time. I found out there is an Tower Records in Sapporo, so I will listen to a little music there when I shop for SACDs. :wine_glass:

But after the trip, I may be forced to quit for a while to recover from the spending.
