I tried some very good preamps, but there are so many and I take previous reply posters at their word that their preamp additions were worthwhile.. .
Welcome mahtovid. So. . .do you use yours direct? I think there are pluses to either approach. In my case I have a balanced preamp and find that the best option as the output voltage of the single-ended from the DSD DAC is far too low to use without a preamp.
In my experience an excellent preamp is a top requirement.
The real question is, can YOU get by without?
If your answer is yes,I’m jealous.
That ^^^ is the best answer to the question, and one that many eventually arrive at. The only thing I’d add is that if you can get by without it for now (and want to stay that way), don’t ever listen to an excellent preamp (crappy ones are ok to listen to).
In almost 45 years of HiFi, I’ve owned one pre-amp and used it for less than a year. In the UK there has been a greater preference for integrated amplifiers, and n ow increasingly for fully integrated units.
@kzk I’ve heard plenty of systems with pre-amplifiers from $10,000 to $100,000 and don’t feel I’ve missed out.
No worries. If everyone like the same thing the hobby would be boring. My earlier comment was pretty tongue-in-cheek anyway, haha.
