Is this the new big a** amp Paul talked about?

Happy Cake Day!

I don’t have that info right now. It’s a bit too early and no one has taken it over to a scale. Way too early in the development process. As you can probably see, it’s twice as long as the smaller PMG amplifier which is pretty close in size to a P15 Power Plant or a BHK 300 amplifier (the PMG uses two of the smaller amp heatsinks per side).

Well that is sort of good news. The P15 is 73 lbs and the BHK2300 83 lbs which would put the beast in the $20-23K range.

I don’t think they price it per pound -

Good thing I can type ‘cause I’m not talking so well with the hole I poked through my cheek with my tongue. But then, $270/lb within 3% over a price range of almost 10:1. Just saying.

It’s funny, because you might be right!

Looks like this amp will replace the final BHK amp left. There must be something special about the new topology vs the BHK to be taking such a drastic departure from it; SMPS and no tubes for the input stage. Hopefully musicality is the reason for it not audiophile hype.

Paul’s been hinting at adopting SMPS for awhile. I won’t be auditioning but will look forward to the chatter.

I’m guessing price around $35,000. Pr.

My price prediction is closer to $50,000 USD (pair) but that’s likely overshooting.

The price of aluminum is three times higher than it was in December 2024. That new monoblock looks like a lot of aluminum!

Hopefully they built it within reason and not just an all out assault on the best thing possible and have not sold their soul to the cost no object world we live in now. Staying true to their core principles and offering exceptional value at more affordable prices is what they have built their legacy. The other PMG components released look to be priced about 20% higher than the previous BHK components they replaced. Hopefully this trend continues!

We are definitely sticking to our core values and as I mentioned earlier, expect pricing of the PMG amps to be in line with their predecessors, BHK. And they are significantly better, to the point of dropping jaws. I don’t know I’ve heard a gap this big.

So new design, but I guessing cheaper costing parts inside so price can be similar to predecessor

Maybe the SMPS is less costly than the traditional PS in the BGK600. But, the uptick in output devices, heat sinking, chassis size, material costs, etc., will probably bump the price of the new monos over the current ones.

Seriously? Why post such a message?

“expect pricing of the PMG amps to be in line with their predecessors”

just thinking the design with SMPS is cheaper then the traditional ones so the price stays close, even though its a newer design. price does not always have to go up..but it usually does.

Wow !
This means an even bigger gap than you delivered with the PMG Pre and 512 (combined)?

I see new monoblocks in your future

Mmmmm, no, about the same actually – gap wise – it’s just that in the past I haven’t been as blown away with the improvements of amps as I have with those of preamp and DAC and this is about the same size. Remarkable, actually.
