Cheaper? Hmmmm, hardly. Actually, opposite is true. We are using the new Hypex SMPS and they are a bit more than the old transformer and caps set. They certainly perform better and permit the gobs of class A power we have.
Having had all manner of PSA products, I generally agree that the sonic bump has generally been greater with new preamp and DAC introductions. Within the amp range, however, I found an equal rise in improvement with the BHK 600’s verses its little brother, the BHK 300’s.
If the PMG “800”’s take a similar or greater leap, that will be something. Here’s hoping a working model will be at Axpona. I’ll try to endure the wait and spend more time doing heavy dead lifts at the gym.
I bet you’re gonna need to be prepared to do all the heavy lifting putting those amps in position, one available!
I thought in the video you mentioned it to be 100W of pure class A?
You’re correct. Thanks for the jog. 94 watts of class A for the best.
Don’t cheat anyone out of those extra 44-50 class A watts!
I agree with the team at PS Audio about too much power is never a bad thing. I have heard the effortless sound such high power amps can deliver even at low volumes making the music more relaxed and natural. They just might be my end game amps.
