IsoTek V5 SYNCRO UNI 16 and DC

My amplifiers also hum a bit. Now I have to be really close to hear the transformer hum. At times, I had a loud hum that I could also hear at the listening position. Since installing the IsoTek V5 Syncro Uni 16, the loud hum has disappeared. In general, the hum from the transformers has also become a bit quieter. Not only has the hum subsided, but the sound has also improved with the DC filter.

The good news about the FI-52 is that you’ll have it broken in in just over a week’s time as your Uni 16 is on 24/7.
By the way what’s the other plug on the Uni 16 power cord?
I think I’m just going to put a cheap C19 connector on my power cord until I can pick up a pre-owned FI-52 as new they are prohibitedly expensive over here.

I thought the connector’s impact would be less pronounced there, since the Furutech Vault power strip and other power cables are still behind the IsoTek. The other dark connector on the IsoTek output is also a Furutech connector. This isn’t available separately, as it’s reserved for the Furutech Project V1 power cable. The connector also has NCF pure copper contacts. The casing is even better than the FI-52 and FI-50 ncf. The carbon fiber casing has a marbled, granite-like appearance. And as far as I understand, the contacts are additionally cryogenized. I have three Project V1 cables, one for the power strip and one for both mono amplifiers.

The FI-52 has a more natural sound than the FI-32. Unlike the FI-52, the FI-32 sounds digital. That’s one way to describe it.
The price of the FI-52 plug also put me off and I thought I could save a bit on the input side of the IsoTek.

Thanks for that but I’m still unsure of what plug you have on the other end of the FI-52 for the Uni 16. i.e. the plug that goes into the wall socket.
Obviously if you now have a NCF C19 connector going into the Uni 16 you should also have a NCF plug going into the wall socket?

I didn’t install a plug on the other end. I connected the UNI 16 directly to the separate cable that goes into my listening room. I installed a separate cable in a cable duct. Before the IsoTek, I had two surface-mounted Furutech outlets there. I figured, why bother with additional outlet and an cable dangling around when I can connect the IsoTek directly.

The new Neotech cable and connectors might also be of interest. Neotech now also offers cables and connectors treated with graphene for better conductivity.

Ok, thanks.
Checking on eBay, I can buy a Rhodium C19 connector for about $30, I’ll probably get one of these until I can get a FI-52 at a reasonable price.
Should be better than a cheapie C19 I have lying around.

After a week with the IsoTek V5 and the Furutech FI-52 NCF plug, which I added two days ago, I have to say I’m impressed. Thanks to the Furutech FI-52 instead of the FI-32, the sound is so smooth and spacious. Okay, the Furutech NCF plugs aren’t a bargain, but they’re the best. The IsoTek V5 is worth every penny for the price. No more hum, and the sonic improvements are very impressive. The IsoTek V5 is my recommendation for anyone who wants clean power. Why spend more when it can be so easy !!!?

Really looking forward to getting mine, either the end of this week or early next week.
I’ve found a Wattgate C19 that I didn’t know I had, it’ll keep me going until I get a Furutech FI-52 NCF.

The Wattgate plugs aren’t bad. It’s not as if the FI-32 was inaudible. The FI-52 blends in unobtrusively for me. It probably also depends on the system itself. I’ve been tweaking things so much recently that a flaw in the system is now noticeable. Two years ago, I might not have noticed the difference at all.

I find the Vanguard connector series interesting. I might order a pair and see how they perform. FI-60.2 Gold 20A IEC

How’s the Uni 16 settling in?
Looking forward to getting mine sometime next week.

I’m more than satisfied with the result. The transformer hum from my amplifiers has disappeared, and even when I put my ear to the amplifier, the transformer is now very quiet. The sound has also benefited positively from the Uni 16. It has no drawbacks. Apparently, it solves my problem with the dirty power grid. Best regards, Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Have you already looked inside the Syncro yet?
I’m curious what’s in it.
I have read that it is not just a DC blocker.

I wish the unit had 2 outlets.

I did find a picture from the Syncro3 i think:

Hello, I haven’t looked at it yet. I saw the picture of the previous model and think the new one will cast similarly shed. I’m curious if the connector and socket can be replaced with Furutech NCF. But then would the warranty be void.

I received my Uni 16 today.
I changed my V3 power cord NCF connector to a Wattgate C19 connector I already had.
The unit is up and running and I listened to a couple of tracks just to ensure everything was working.
I had my V3 unit before my P20 so the V5 Uni 16 is again before the P20.
I’m hoping for improved dynamics with the better current delivery to the P20.
I presume the unit will need burn in and I’d like to put another Furutech ncf connector on the power cord ,but they are hideously expensive in the UK so I might try waiting for a pre used one?
So judgement is reserved on the performance.

I’m curious to hear your verdict on the V3 and the V5. According to IsoTek, the V5 offers greater capacity. When I installed the UNI 16 almost two weeks ago, I felt the high frequencies sounded a bit harsh. When I changed the plug, the slight harshness disappeared. Perhaps the V5 also needs some burning-in. But now it sounds excellent. The blackness of the background, details, and depth of the soundstage have all benefited. The dynamics are not limited. The annoying hum from my amplifier’s transformers has also disappeared since then.

I’ll post my observations after the unit has had a few days to settle in.
On the couple of songs I played at switch on, there didn’t seem to be much difference between the V3 and new V5 version.

In your case, you already had a power supply that was cleansed of DC voltage.

I’ve a short Amazon Prime offer so watched a couple of episodes of a show last night first.
I’m a member of a film club so I have Blazing Saddles on 4K to watch so I powered up my Sony 4K projector and watched.
Wow, made in the 70’s so originally a mono soundtrack but it’s been remastered in 4K and Atmos. The picture was bright and vibrant, hard to say if any real improvement but the sound was next level.
There are several songs and orchestrations in the movie and I’ve never heard my system so good. Really clear and natural, just sounded so much more real than before and it was already good. It felt like I was listening to what the director would hear during production and mastering.
Once I’d finished the movie it was getting late so no more testing.
I’m excited to see what the next week brings.
