My wife really wants to throw all my audio gear in a dumpster if I pass on before her. I don’t have a problem with that. My audio friends do.
The gear can go, but my Music Collection is vast and doesn’t deserve a dumpster.
You’re making a good case for buying stuff too heavy for disinterested spouses to pick up. Leave behind the phone numbers of your closest audiophile friends to help.
A few thoughts occurred to my amazing wife & I as we discussed this thread last evening.

When assessing the value of equipment for estate purposes, it’s better to put a low price on components for more favorable tax treatment. Maybe it’s a case for having ‘two sets of books’.

What 10-track set list would you leave for your partner to play when you’re gone? Would it be light and happy? Nostalgic? Heart-crushing and tear-jerking?

If you love your partner, tell them now while you still can.
My son knows what my system cost.
I trust his judgement.
I “love” my system but as it’s just inanimate objects, I don’t care what happens to it after I’m gone.
I am hoping that it’s still soothing me right up to my last breath.
Maybe I should park my dumpster at the end of your driveway.
Regarding the music I agree, it would be a shame for our music collections to just be abandoned. Come to think of it I need to pass on more of my duplicate LPs.
