Legend has it that Sir George Martin has zero interest in Stereo and as such he paid minimal attention to the Stereo mixes. He would put John on the left, Paul on the right, and George and Ringo somewhere in between. For me that resulted in very interesting sound stage imaging. I am actually a huge fan of his toss off Stereo mixes. Growing up in the USA only Stereo mixes were available to me.
One of the reasons I suggested Abbey Road is because of my preference for Sir George’s mixes.
Steven, I have to ask - are you sure about the flute being right on this piece? I hear it on the left (are we talking H. 374?). With The Conversation, when the tabla comes in it’s dead center.
I recently used this to check my speaker placement in my not so large living room. I like the diagrams in the *.pdf booklet of how the instruments and musicians were arranged on stage during the recording by music track. With a bunch of significant system upgrades my Vandy Sig 3s have become more sensitive to toe in.
Hoping this will help you get the most of your compromised speaker placement options.
