Paul, as an owner of a P5 pair, I was thinking of a P10. But now with the upcoming P20, I am waiting. Is there a release date yet for the P20? Price?

Just curious if it’s worth it to wait or just add a P10 now to my P5 pair??

Yes. The first P20s have shipped to our dealers for testing. We always make sure they work in the far corners of the world before shipping to customers. The first real units that will become available are scheduled to ship in late January and I am pretty confident of that date.

Retail pricing in the United States is $9,999.

Great news. Will 1 P20 replace a P10 pair in a system? Just trying to figure needs of equipment.

Well, that really depends on the system. The P20 certainly has lower output impedance and distortion levels than the P10 and is better sounding. It’s not twice the size or power, though most systems don’t use the full capabilities of the P10. In my system, I am replacing the two P10s with two P20s because of the improvement in performance (which is dramatic). On other systems, a single P20 will likely replace two P10s. So it’s just hard to say.

When will you release datasheet and information about the new P20. As I heard earlier was it supposed to be released before Christmas.

Any news about release date?

Owners in the US market have been taking delivery of their units. I know one end-user customer who bought three of them. However, P20 is still not posted in the PS Audio Products web page.

Pmotz has it right. We have sent about 20 units around the world for beta testing. These are big and heavy beasts so we wanted to make sure our dealers, distributors, and a few select customers gave them a whirl in different voltages and circumstances. Our German distributor learned some new English exclamation words when he wrote about the sound of the P20, words I shall not use here. Let’s just suggest he was blown away at the differences between the P20 and the P10.

The actual public release of the product is still scheduled for February.

Oh joy, something to be even more jealous of ... The way my system is configured (similar to Music Room 1) I would need two of ‘em. Yeah, like that’s going to happen!

Paul,

Any thoughts on upgrades that could be retrofitted to the existing base of P10s? I’ve got 2 here… after getting a couple of BHK-250’s late last year, I don’t think a couple of P20s are in my plans anytime soon.

TIA!

I wish it were possible to upgrade the P10 to its (eventual) new circuitry but alas it requires too much circuit change. Unfortunately. We’ll do our best to provide generous trade-up options as best we can when they are launched.

Does that mean that a P10 Series II (and maybe P5 II) is also on the horizon?

Yup. Same form factors, different drive circuitry. Maybe spring.

Paul, thanks for the “public” announcement of that! Last week I was fiddling around the back of my equipment rack and heard a loud pop from the speakers. Oh $hit what did I do!? Fiddled around and got the system running again, turns out I dislodged the power cable for the P500 which shut off all the source components. However, after correcting the loose cable the DS kept muting and the remote was not working consistently. Huh? Well, after an hour of diagnosing I check the voltage out from the P500, it’s low and varying wildly. Uggh. Apparently the DS doesn’t like low voltage so it protects itself (good news, the DS was not harmed in the making of this post). I contacted PS Service and they think the regenerator died. Not good or cheap. Guess it’s time to upgrade, but wait, they tell me a new series of regenerators is coming in a few months. Best news, my sick P500 might still be eligible for trade-in. So now I (probably should) wait for the new P5. I should say that a P10 was my plan, I mentioned it in previous posts, but the new BHK pre made me rethink component placement. Instead of putting everything between the speakers (generally a bad idea) where a P10 would feed everything, I am keeping the source components off to the side of the room. The side of the room is well away (5M interconnects worth) from the amp and the Vandersteen’s (built-in powered sub). Given that long power cords are a rarity (and discouraged?), a P10 would not be fully appreciated in my system. Plus, a nice P5 size slot is open in the rack. Case closed. So, any chance of a beta of the new regenerators?

I agree with you 100% on that…it was unfortunate we lost the battle on handle free P20.

Just for balance, I like the handles. As a power supply black will draw less attention to the handles, if it is an appearance thing.
