Sorting your genre in the database of music (in windows)
I was tired to have a NAS, full of music, but barely able to listen to my Jazz music, because, there is so much sub genre:
there were genre like : neo-jazz-tequila-post-punk-pop and rock-pop-blues-folk-british-emergence.
Tired of subgenre, I decide to change the metadata of genre for a fewer one
BTW, most of the sub-genre serve a marketing, so Artist number one listening in Jazz-Chiquita post punk music!
Exemple:
- Ambient Music: is new age; neo classical; tangerine dream music; Carbon Base form music
- Classical is if it plays with an orchestra or the composer is dead for century it is Classical, so yes the lord of the ring is classical, symphonic Jethro Tull is classical.
so I decided my genre will be:
- Jazz;
- Classical;
- Ambient;
- Blues;
- Voices;
- Country;
- New Acoustic
Decide what is convient for you un genre.
What I did in windows, after I made a backup of my Ripping.
I type in the search: genre:[no space, I start with letter A to Z, one by one]
Sort by Genre
Start with letter A, you will see all genre that start with A or content A
Select the one you want to change genre
Select your file:
ALT+Enter or propriety (left mouse)
In the field choice you have and are manageable, choose Field genre, change it for the genre you attribute, and apply and ok
My result for me: I only have 6 “genre”, in my Database.
After cleaning the genre, just upload the result in the NAS or a microSD card for the streamer! and choose genre for playing randomly a Genre!
Yes you could also, change others field value,
recommandation: start with a test base, before going all in! for your learning curve
That was my way, to clean the garbage they put in remastering infos, so remaster of 2016 for a Basie album of 1962, get back to 1962, so yes, I could listen music by era, now!
