Just curious for everyone that has kids/adult kids, are they audiophiles or interested in audio at all?
I’ve got two young kids ages 5 and 2 and they love music and dance parties! They even kind of understand what Dolby Atmos is (I know multichannel music is blasphemy around here, but there are some fun mixes out there). It brought me joy when one time my daughter complained about the car audio quality and how she prefers to listen on my stereo system over the echo devices around the house.
Get back to us when they are in their teen years and then again when their minds have fully formed. Regarding the latter, well I continue to work on it
My older daughter has a nice pair of floor standing speakers and SC from me ($5k) but refused to upgrade anything else on their Sony level receiver. But their only music source is a turntable (non-audiophile level for sure). They had a $4k streaming transport in a box collecting dust (gift from me too). On my last trip to Japan, I bought some vinyl for them, and that made them happier than the $4k streamer gift.
My younger daughter really appreciates my system and always tells me it sounded great. But after a couple of songs, she will put on her Sony earpiece and goes back to her room.
I will beg her to have my system after I am gone, but I am not so sure about that.
I’d bet a good 99 and 44/100% of our systems will go into the great audiophile dustbin (or sold or given away to any remaining old coots) when we are gone. Our version of the hobby will die with us, at least in the USA. The Eastern countries will carry on for a while longer.
It’s a safe bet, as I won’t be around to pay it off if I’m wrong! 
I guess dumpster diving (in that audiophile dustbin) is in my future 
Hold out hope. I got into it in my late 30s and have now collected my parents record collections. Unfortunately for me, they did not have a nice system for me to also adopt and I have been building my own.
Multichannel is not blasphemy. It’s awesome!! Regarding kids, they don’t have a choice. Streaming is the big killer for music and stereo systems. High end audio is pricing itself out. I venture to say companies like Emotiva that at least sell something that can be affordable might
Might save the day.
Nurture that and there may be hope.
My oldest is way ahead of his sibs. He has a taste for jazz and collects vinyl - which he plops on a record player that broadcasts over Sonos.
The closest we’ve come to an audiophile moment was a comment from my wife awhile back when she noticed the sound wasn’t coming out of the speakers.
My son showed no interest in my audiophile activities until he was well into his 40s. Now about once a month we go together for breakfast at a restaurant where we talk all things high fidelity for about two hours, then make the rounds of the local record stores. I’m enjoying it immensely and I think it is building a stronger father-son relationship.
My 43 year old son is impressed with my system. But he’s at a stage in life when he has very little time to devote to this hobby. He bought an all-in-one record player and it’s going every day playing records that I bring over. But I’m 78% sure that he will assemble a nice system eventually; hopefully with the stuff I have in my closet.
