I received my DSJr. a month or so ago, and upgraded to Redcloud soon after, and have thoroughly enjoyed it. However, on two occasions, I have experienced a “popping sound” through the speakers. The first time, I was using Tidal/Roon into the BridgeII, out to a Dennis Had tube amp. and then on to Vandersteen Treo CT speakers. There was a Pffft! sound, not a pop exactly, and I rushed to turn off the amp, assuming I was loosing a tube. Later, I hooked the amp up to a different source (microrendu\>chord mojo\>Kef ls50) and had no issues with the amp or tubes, and no errant noises/pops/Pfffts. It has been operating without problem since. So, I then hooked the DSJr. up to my Pass XA30.8 amp, and got back to enjoying the music. Last night, I got another noise, this time a distinct “pop” sound. It only happened once, and I didn’t rush to unplug anything, just continued to listen, and no more pops, though it was getting late, so didn’t continue the listening session.

After thinking about the situation, I realized the only common hardware in each episode, was the DSJr., so I’m curious whether anyone else has had a similar situation occur. Previous to inserting the DSJr. into my system(s), there had been no pops or pffffts!, ever. Should I just continue monitoring the situation and see if this continues to happen, or should I take some other course of action. I don’t want to loose a speaker, so am hesitant to turn volume up much at all, and this rather limits my enjoyment of the music. Any observations? Thanks,

Don Ivey

Are you only using the Bridge input?

Are the pops only at track boundaries?

Yes, these noises have only occurred when using the bridge input. The first time no music was being played, and the second there was, but can’t remember if at track boundary or within the track. I’ll be more cognizant of when it happens in the future. Thanks for your help.

PS Audio support will have more of an idea about the Bridge causing pops than I do. I’m not sure if there’s a fix or workaround at this point.

Thanks, Ted. Yes, there will be new Bridge firmware on the way. It will fix the MQA not showing the right bit and sample rate and a few other problems too. We just got a repaired version to test but it had bugs so back to the coders it went. Hopefully sometime next week we should be ready for the Bridge update.

Hello

Just purchased the Directstream with Bridge 2.

I am having issues with MQA displaying the incorrect bit. Has this update been released?

Thanks

I have updated to the latest Bridge firmware today. So far I haven’t heard any of the inter-song plops. And I have tested especially between DSD and other (both Redbook and high-res) where it happened. Maybe it is too early but it seems to be better.

However, what still is kind of a nuisance is the (little) noises produced when I change volume on the DSD tracks. I am not sure but these also seems to be related to the Bridge. I am even considering to purchase a good quality network adapter (Roon ready of course) like the SOtM Ultra or the Sonore Ultra Rendu. I could then use the Bridge for playing MQA and the rest via the new NAA. Would the Roon controlled volume control on the DSJ still work in this set-up?

Or can we expect more updates on the Bridge that will fix this little issue?

Correction: after playing louder the plops in between tracks when changing from DSD to other material and vice versa are still there.

I installed the latest bridge II software.

The problems with the incorrect MQA bits being displayed have been corrected.

I am still getting some pops between some tracks on the Norah Jones Come Away With Me DSD file. This is not a problem between all tracks, just some which seems strange.

Sorry to say that the POPS/PLOPS are still present (volume 80, DSD) and not only at track boundaries ;(. Volume changes (ROON, JRiver) seem to tricker POPS.

Still IF no POPS THEN redcloud sounds marvellous 😉

Hope PSA will investigate further.

DS Snr. Latest BridgeII firmware. Redcloud. Vol 80. Roon.

I’d describe the sound as a tick. DSD only. Flac is fine.
