Problems with PMG 512 DAC?

same here - is qobuz side i think

i get it wherever i stream qobuz

Ok, good to know. Maybe other Qobuz users have heard the same.

Yup - get this, but have got this across all DACs I have used iFI, Chord, PS Audio switching from PCM to DSD streams. The other thing I get though which is a bit more weird is a stuttering at the end of tracks recorded in DSD128 - mainly vinyl rips and its always at the end of the track

anyone but me still having display issues with their PMG DAC?

sound got better again.. surpassed 300 hours

No issues here after recent update.
Are you in contact with PSA?

Whenever there’s a power outage it takes ~30 seconds before the generator kicks on. That’s long enough to reboot the P15, which includes the PMG Transport and the PMG DAC. Doing so causes the DAC display to get pixelated, Transport to become erratic. I.e. drawer won’t function from front panel. Power cycle on both fixes the problems.

I still don’t get the sample rate displayed when streaming. I do with the optical. And a couple of times over the last three weeks it wouldn’t connect with Qobuz Connect, but re-booting fixed it. I guess it is a very sensitive instrument. It do sound great.

PMG DAC Reboot Warning
Be sure to power down your amplifiers AND subwoofers before rebooting or powering off the PMG DAC. Most of the time my unit powered down and back up silently, but on one occasion switching off the DAC caused a very loud pop sound through the speakers and blew one of my subwoofer amps ($200 repair).

Lesson learned: power off every device connected to the PMG DAC before flipping its main power switch off.

I had the same experience as robleeco except I didn’t have any damage, but I am now being careful doing as you suggest.

Same for me!

I don’t yet have my dac, pre and power amp trigger wired. Mainly because of this concern.
Is there any protection circuit in place for power up and down?

My understanding is that standby mode shuts down the display and disconnects outputs Maybe the latter os only for amps.

I never experienced this with my MKII DAC - what you have experienced happens more often than not in my system. Not sure what the explanation is for it.

I agree. My MK2 DAC is rock solid. Never had any issues with it. The PMG DAC has lots of issues compared to the MK2.

This is a good reminder to always turn a system on/off in the correct order. Amplifiers need to be off whenever a source component is turned on or off, whether this is a DAC, a preamp, etc.

Amen. Volume to zero first always.

On: source→pre→pwr(Int)

Volume to zero

Off: pwr(Int)→pre→source

50+ years, can’t remember the last terrible pop, bang if ever. Automatic just like breathing.

I do love the sound of everything that passes through my PMG DAC, but after months of glitches that have yet to be resolved am wondering if anyone knows of an ETA for the solutions…..

Wonder if those glitches are slowly becoming ā€œfeatures.ā€ Let’s hope that the remaining issues can and will be addressed.

It appears to me that PSAudio is putting time to market over a thorough QC process. I need some enlightenment.

Sounds like you have a reasonable theory - no enlightenment needed IMO.

My experience as well, with the DSD Mk I, DSD SACD Player Mk I, and Power Plant P15. QC didnpt come across as a strength. Nor does vetting new products. Ultimately it gets sorted out, it just requires a ā€œcertainā€ degree of patience on the buyer’s part.
