To be clear.
It wasn’t losing connection over time but had never been connected in the first place. I never had it losing connection through years of owning a dsd dac mki and then mkii. You will love the 512 dac. Enjoy.

Sounds like one to many subs if you didn’t hear a difference! ![]()
The reason why I looked as bass did seem heavy on the right side. Queen Mary really made it show.. then I looked.
PMG512 is totally problem free for me since day one. Now I own both 512 and SACD, the quibble I have is on the display. Besides the size disproportion of numbers and letters on the screen, the circular rings of the two do not match in width. PMG512 has a much wider ring than PMG SACD which looked very odd when you put them on the same rack. They should have the same width looks, like their appearances.
Paul has indicated that he is a bit of a freak when it comes to symmetry and attention to detail, so I would imagine they’ll be addressing these finishing touches soon now that most of the bugs have been eradicated. I second the notion of having a fully matched stack.
It’s about time I place the PMG512 order. Is it safe to say I’d have a standing credit from previously trading in my BHK Pre for the PMG Pre? My MK2 is only 15 months old and considering selling it outright after A/B listening.
I used my “stored” credit from trading my speakers two years ago. So you should not have an issue using your previous credit. The problem is your profile will not show how much credit is there. I saved my previous email communication when I traded in. If you remember who you dealt with your BHK trade-in then it is better to contact the same person.
I changed a power cord on PMG512, and was surprised how much a PC affected its sound. It is very sensitive on SQ with different power cords.
But this is not the problem. For the last 30 minutes I tried to find the streamer in Roon again. I turned off from the front, from the back, and even did a streamer initiation from the streamer menu. So far PMG streamer has not shown up in Roon yet. The screen even says the internet signal is strong. What happened?![]()
I need to leave the house in an hour, so I shut it down now and hope it will appear in a later time.
Donald, from what cord to what cord?
Before I get off the door, I turned it on again from the back. This time PMG512 shows up. Does it take that much time to reactive the streamer? I do not know.
I switched Stealth CGLE and Takshaka between PMG and MU2, but I have not had time to listen from fixing the streamer issue. This afternoon maybe.
I also tried a AQ Dragon last night, and head a big change in sound.
That’s the strangest thing! This happened today to me also. No hard power off, no streamer power down, no switching to and fro wifi/ethernet worked.
Trying to see if there’s an update available didn’t work either…
Any other forum member of experiencing the same?
Luckily, I still have my RS130 as a backup.
Edit: I’ve just been out for ski lessons for some hours and upon return switched the rig back on. Surprise: the streamer is working like it should. Perhaps the timeout from wall power did the trick?
There is no doubt that the PMG 512 and any quality DAC, like the MU2, will respond to a quality power cord. I had the AQ Dragon, Stealth CGLE and Stealth Grande on each of these units. The sound got progressively better with each cable and The Grande is the winner.
To your earlier point, it is near impossible to compare multi-task DAC’s like the MU2 and PMG. My evaluation of these units was with the same source, cables, filters, switch and separate preamp (PMG) in the chain, using Qobuz.
Files and CD’s were used but these less objective tests are due to the obvious source, cable, and format changes.
We try our best to create an ideal test. Good luck with yours.
Thanks for the information, I think. Now I need to put The Grande on my PC list to try![]()
Beautiful day in SF, We have not been in the city for more than a year. Near 70F helps so we will stay longer. No audio evaluation today![]()
Just got back from two weeks in Tucson. Only in the teens here in Chicago. ![]()
Were you able to pick up rocks /gems/crystals from the Gem & Mineral shows?
The cold is one reason I’ve not gone to the Axpona show.
Long term plan is to get a Perfectwave sacd and then a PMG512 after used ones hit the market.
We were aware of the Gem Show but had other plans. Don’t let the weather dissuade you from an Axpona trip. Should be a balmy 40 plus degrees.
This has happened a couple of times, and I have no idea what triggered it. Earlier I tried to switch from streamer to I2S, but remote did not work. I noticed the logo was on brighter white light instead of blue. None of the buttons worked and the only way was to turn off from the back.
I remember a few days ago same thing happened, and was also when using streamer.
Does anyone encounter this problem before? What causes this?
I’m beginning to think the the best way to utilize the internal streamer is Ethernet connection which I won’t do because my N200 uses it for the awesome v-Tuner built in. 24 bit stations around the world. My favorites are from the Netherlands for Jazz and Italy for classical. I’m not giving that up and not going to change the Ethernet cable connection all the time. The N200 sounds so dam good via USB I am giving up on the 512 internal streamer. At least for now.![]()
Maybe you can try a WiFi extender near PMG512. My Orbi sat. is 8’ away from it and there was no connecting issue nor drop off other than that one strange day earlier.
You can add a good audiophile network switch and feed both with Ethernet.
I’m already using Netgear router with Netgear extender about 3 ft from 512. I just tried again and got the WiFi green WiFi complete msg on my IPad but will not restart like the next step is saying. I am stumped and done. Not worth the aggravation. I have excellent WiFi strength so I’ll just live with it and like I said I highly doubt the internal streamer will sound better. Someday I will plug in the Ethernet cable just to see.
