My local library offers the Libby app at no cost. I can read magazines (as well as other things) on my iPad as soon as they are published. It’s a wonderful resource.
I tried using your method by turning off the streamer from display, and turning it back on. The PMG 512 streamer appeared in Roon for a few seconds, and it disappeared again. It could be Roon’s issue. But so far every time I turned off the unit, it took 20 minutes to a few hours for it to reappear. Strange.
Another issue developed lately is that when I turned on from the back, the volume number did not appear (non-stop searching). This morning I had to turn off and on four times for the volume to appear.
I am seriously thinking mine has a bad bug inside.
I would definitely reach out to Delia on Monday for suggestions Donald. Sending back to PS Audio emergency room for surgery is no fun. We both know that. Mine seems to be working good for now, knock on wood.
512 refers to how many hours the user has to spend troubleshooting in order to enjoy the improved sound of the PMG DAC.
This afternoon I continue to experience issues.
First I turned off PMG512 and switched back on, and within a minute the white light around the logo appeared again. When it happens everything stuck. This happened one more time too. The third time the normal blue light was back. However, the streamer was gone from Roon like before. So, repeating the process of turning streamer off from display, waited for a minutes then powered on the streamer. No luck! It has been an hour and PMG streamer has not shown up yet.
Oh well, I need to contact Delia on Monday. ![]()
It’s a lot of technical details, review and cool photoshoots with naked pics! ![]()
I am able to access from my Public Digital Library. am I allowed to post all screenshots here ?
Nice, I did find no filter sounded better, and I also up sampling to 512 too. Thanks!
The review will show up eventually for the public, I guess.
Will streamer connect to Qobuz not going through roon just to see if it works?
In Qobuz I could not find PMG512 either. Once it shows up, and if it shows up, I will check Qobuz to see if it will find the streamer.
I am unable to turn off the filter… have often had filter issues in other areas if my life as well
Did you try enabling the dac in Roon under settings/audio (again)?
I read the article using the Libby app. Thank you for that. The reporting on the three filters was very interesting but where did you read anything about turning the filter “off”. The choices are filter 1,2 or 3. Default is filter 1 which is I assume is what you mean by “off”.
I think 1 filter 1 is flat. So basically 1 is off.
That’s usually the first thing I tried. But when PMG streamer disappeared, it also disappeared from the setup menu too.
I am unable to turn off my filter too, but other people sometimes speak without filters.
I have seen this as well with pushing from my phone (airplay) and Spotify. If I am not using the streamer for a while it seems to disappear as an option in either the IOS device or Spotify on my network. A restart of the streamer from the UI on the unit fixes it and then the DAC can be seen by IOS / Spotify. I wonder if there is some sort of timeout or sleep that is activated that takes the unit off the network as it disappears from my router UI as well (where it has a static DHCP reservation). Maybe a firmware update with fix this (as I don’t recall it happening at all when i first got the unit. Other things were problematic - but not the streamer being available for connections)
I wish mine can do that. Roon would not see my DAC for a long period of time (four to five hours) after restart. Turning on and off the streamer from display did not work either. I sent an email to Delia so hopefully she can find a solution.
Yes 1 = Off. where everything locks in and sounds correct.
Filters in the PS Audio PMG 512 DAC
1. Linear (Filter 1)
Type: Linear-phase FIR filter
What it does
-
Maintains perfect phase alignment across frequencies.
-
All frequencies arrive at the same time relationship as in the original signal.
-
Preserves spatial cues and imaging accuracy.
Technical characteristics
-
Symmetrical impulse response
-
Pre-ringing and post-ringing present (typical of linear-phase filters)
Typical sound character
-
Most neutral and accurate
-
Precise imaging and soundstage
-
Slightly smoother leading transients due to pre-ringing
Best for
-
Critical listening
-
Maximum fidelity to the recording
2. Linear Short (Filter 2)
Type: Shorter linear-phase FIR filter
What it does
-
Shortens the impulse response length.
-
Raises the cutoff frequency slightly.
Technical effects
-
Less ringing than the full Linear filter
-
Slightly wider bandwidth
Typical sound character
-
More immediate and energetic
-
Slightly sharper transients
-
Still preserves phase accuracy
Best for
- Listeners who want accuracy but with more attack and openness
3. Circular (Filter 3)
Type: Circular-buffer FIR filter using a FIFO structure
What it does
-
Processes samples in a rotating buffer rather than a fixed impulse response.
-
Prioritizes low latency and fast transient timing.
Technical effects
-
Reduced temporal smear
-
Faster transient response
Typical sound character
-
Faster, punchier presentation
-
Strong rhythmic precision
-
Slightly less strict phase behavior than Linear
Best for
-
Dynamic music
-
Listeners who prefer speed and rhythm over strict phase accuracy
Suspect yours is a network issue before the PMG512. When the PMG512 is misbehaving you can check it’s status from router page or ping test.
Alternatively, bring it out to fellow audiophile place to isolate the cause.
I have a Quad network switch before the PMG512. That switch has a sensitive OCXO, where i touch any cable and the PMG512 will loose internet, although it will show LAN is good. I will restart the streamer to get back internet.
