Seriously, lucky fellow.

Back in the days of my Oracle, I had a Koetsu that I actually bought on a flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong.

The fellow next to me on the flight was Yoshiaki Sugano, the inventor. [ originally a sword maker]

Was 4500 retail at that time [ less for a poor Canadian].

It was 3 weeks before I got home to try it after literally carrying it around the world with me.

It replace a good quality Ortofon and literally put it to shame. Thank goodness it did. Whew.

I think that was the breaking point when I finally admitted to Audiojunkyism.

Listening to Erykah Live at the moment. You gotta get this album!

@gordon Do not fret, I have $13,000.00 Koetsu Platinum Tigereye for your “B” system with Type 2 Platinum Magnets for sale. ASK is $5,000.00…a steal.

@birddogthecat

What firmware version?

@gordon My Father was President & General Manager of the Washington National Symphony Orchestra. When the NSO was on tour in the East, he would buy a few of the “long-body” stones from Koetsu toss them into his case for a month or so and then bring them back to the States. That is who introduced me to Koetsu.

To meet Sugano-San…that would an experience I would never forget. Thank you for sharing that story.

Four to five years ago, I returned 2 of my late Father’s long-body stones to Koetsu via Melvin Ang for Platinum upgrade & rebuild. Two weeks after I shipped, I received and email from Melvin asking to buy the carts for a collector/museum at a greatly inflated price. I was so stunned by the amount of the offer I accepted. I should not of done so. I sold a piece of my heritage.

Source for Erykah Live LP?

Mine is from Amazon.
not sure if any downloadable site has it.
The guy who bought mine spent more $$ rebuilding it than he paid me.
I hink they dry out after a while.
I have NEVER mheard a cartridge sound like a Koetsu does. It's like honey with Franks Red Hot sauce.

@gordon

Yes, the Koetsu sound…with your Wilson Speakers the sound should be a great balance "clinical vs romance."

All carts dry out - especially Koetsu’s. The factory re-build is 1/3-1/2 retail price. But, it is a complete rebuild. All that is reused are the magnets & body.

Soundsmith does brilliant job rebuilding Koetsu’s for about $1,200.00. However, Peter reuses the original silver clad over Cu wire and he cannot duplicate the exact cut of the stylus nor cantilever.

I have heard both rebuilds of RSP’s. The Soundsmith rebuild is superior. Yet, the Soundsmith rebuild lowers re-sale value.

Fascinating story and information. Thanks!

Compared to the newer Wilson WPs I would say my 3/2 are much more tonally balanced. I would describe them as perhaps less colored than many of their competitors but with the suggested POW Wow sub woofer [ large rooms use two of them] they are far from clinical.
When I sold my Pow Wow I did notice a bit of mid-range aggression and Wilson suggested swapping my woofer drivers for the ones from the new 7 and 8 series.
These added back a bit more lower range fullness that seems to reach all the wy up into the highs.
They have never sounded better.[ sub woofer excluded]
