Ron with your Linn rig aren’t they all?
If mine was handy I’d give it a spin.

Regarding the Chesky jazz series this is the only one which really holds up for me. When they were initially released I’d garb them at the local audio shop. As I recall sonically they were fine, but the performances were as jazzophile says a bit schmaltzy. As far as McCoy Tyner goes there are significantly better on MIlestone from the 1970s, but for Chesky this is the only one that sees a replay these days.

Forgot about the Chesky Phil Woods titles with Tom Harrelll, also solid offerings. Can’t remember the last time a I pulled them for a listen.

An excellent Chet Baker sings and plays with Bud Shank, Russ Freeman and strings. Glorious mono to boot on a recent Tone Poet release.

Gil Evans Orchestra Great Jazz Standards featuring John Coles, yet another fine Tone Poet release.

As do his other recordings with Shelly Manne!

Sorry if I offended any Chesky fans. Not my intention. There are some great Chesky releases and I own some, but what I was trying to communicate is the box we have at the shop contained only schmaltz titles from Chesky. I didn’t communicate that well. Mea culpa.

No apology necessary, Chesky is not immune from the schmaltz bug by any means. IME it comes with the audiophile label thing. Having an opinion and standing behind it is just fine. I must say I do appreciate the Chesky Shaded Dog Classical series releases on LP.

Well with a line-up like that it’s a bit hard to go wrong.

It’s hard to go wrong with Mr. Hope at all. Or Mrs.

When I think of Monk, Powell and Hope all hanging out together in Harlem my mind flies.
