Prior to logging in I was seeking a break from staining our deck and my choice was between the above or the Blakey Jazz in Paris Paris Jam Session set you posted. Herbie and Wayne won out on this spontaneously improvised set piano and soprano saxophone. I have not listened too it since It was first issued. As I listen to it now my initial thought is this is better suited for a mid-evening listen with a Talisker neat nearby. The Pass Labs XP-12/XA-25 combination is coming into their own, and piano sounds as it should on the Pure Audio Project Trio 15 Classic speakers.
Your post reminded me of this 70’s fusion classic, Bennie MaupinThe Jewel in the Lotus, on the ECM label, picked up a German press LP when initially released. Still plays as new. As I don’t have the Bennie Maupin Quartet you posted I’ve added Early Reflections to my queue for a listen this evening.
Is that by chance the Analog Productions recent reissue, 2022 200 gm or the 2023 180 gm? How’s the sound? I ask s I have an early 70’s release and may upgrade if the sonics are a significant step up.
I got hooked on Steve Lacy in the mid '70s, and admit still am. This solo set provides insight into Lacy’s genius. I should add Andrea Centazzo on percussion provides for duet interpretations of Hooky and The Duck. The vinyl release is limited to just 250 LPS. Those keen on Lacy’s early HatHut releases are sure to find pleasure in this recent release. Sonically it is fine, however, there is a problem with the playback tape just prior to the conclusion of Figment. Steve LacyThe Ictus Archives Vol.1.
