Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 3)

In the mood for a bit of Fletcher Henderson and A Study in Frustration seems to satisfy.

Haven’t listened to this one in a while. The wonderful bassist Cecil McBee joins Maneri’s usual core group (Joe on reeds, son Mat on viola and Randy Peterson on drums). Three long pieces, sounds real good.

Drinking by the label, another great HatHut live release with Cecil McBee on bass. This is the 2009 2-cd reissue, the original cds were really hard to find.

Look at this lineup, good grief.

Horace Tapscortt - piano
John Carter - clarinet
Andrew Cyrille - drums
Cecil McBee - bass

This artist came out of nowhere and caught me by surprise. If you enjoy the Ben Webster style of sax playing, I think you would enjoy Jimmy. Acoustic Sounds has a remaster release, and it is very excellent.

I am having what turns out to be an interesting day.

One happy thing is that we had our taxes done. . . and we owe less than we thought we did, much less. Whew! Yeeha!

And then the mail came. . . and there was a Claudia Acuna cd that I didn’t think I had ordered. In fact there were two copies, one sealed, and one open with on the front cover “Lon Armstrong, Thank you for your support! Claudia Acuna” . . . . I looked and it was mailed by Claudia Acuna.

I’ve looked through my purchase history and I can’t see anywhere that I ordered that cd, although I did order a few other Acuna cds a month ago.

A happy mystery! Thanks Ms Acuna!

Another fantastic Blue Note remaster by Kevin Gray! Grabbing the CD set right now to listen to at work this afternoon. One of the few KG remasters for BN to be released on CD in the US. The rest are Japanese issues only. Thanks for sharing!
