In my experience what is unique in Chicago is a high level of collaboration and a sense of community. The players are supportive of one and other. Surprising, I found this lacking in Madison’s jazz community where performance competiton pits players against one and other.

Yes, surprised me. A small community, no secrets as they say. I naively thought a smaller community would bring every one together for a common purpose. Limied resources ultimately influenced behaviors. I’ve stepped aside on the promotion side, as bringing in outside talent created additional friction. The Blue Stem thing marches on regardless.
