I have been doing too many tweaks lately so let me try to address your question without confusion about the FB thread.
I used the adapter for the Puritan PSM-156 AC conditioner so I can use either AQ Dragon or Zenwave PSR-11 power cord to connect to it. What I found was the Zenwave cord is more stable with the adapter, and Dragon HC is too heavy for it. Both sounded great so the adapter is a good one.
However, I like Zenwave with P15 better in overall sound, so I switched back to original Classic+ cord, and not using the adapter anymore. Dragon HC goes back to BHK pre. I will probably end up ordering another cord with IEC 19 plug to replace stock cord in future.
Between playing golf and watching golf, I have not spent much time on comparing sluggos. Then I received a pair of ālike newā Apos Ray 12au7 tubes (grabbed them from Amazon w/ 35% discount). They were put in BHK pre and I am pretty sure they are close to brand new. So there will be sometime to break in them.
Next week we are traveling and the system will be shut down. So far I found the sluggo needs a good three hours to settle in. I like both rhodium-silver and HP copper, but I have not listened them close enough to make judgement yet.
I got email that the 4N silver tube w/o rhodium and 4N silver w/ rhodium column are in US. Hopefully they show up with M-2. I will trial swap in my P-20 to see if this fuseless phenomenon is electrifyingly elevated.
My second SDFB was delivered this morning. . . albeit not to my address. I tracked it down to a neighborās deck in part due to the photo the driver provided, it looked like one on a house a street over I recognized.
Iām waiting to install it til the mail comes with the Sluggo. I do have a Super Sluggo I could use, but gettin to the fuse holder in the SEWE300B in the Samson Version 3 is not easy and I donāt want to use that one really, and I donāt want to to do that ordeal twice!
I got a chance to go up and listen unexpectedly and couldnāt resist setting the second SDFB up with the power cords and used the Super Sluggo. I mean the Super Sluggo is greatāI just preferred the High Purity Copper by a bit. Another advantage, the Super Sluggo has more a week or so of use on it, itās broken in and I know how it sounds. That said: itās a nice blend, the High Purity Copper in the P15 regenerator, and the Super Sluggo in the SEWE300B. Having two SDFB gives the sound (so far) just a bit more meat to the instrumental texture and tone and a touch of mellowness that is welcome, the presentation pushed back just a bit, the way I like it in this room.
Of course after about 30 minutes of listening the mail arrived with the High Purity Copper Sluggo Mark sent! Thatās how it works. Iāll give the Super Sluggo a few days before swapping out.
I do have ONE more AC-12 I could purpose behind another SDFB and the seed has been planted here that the DSD MK II might benefit. . . it draws a bit of current. . .and my PST and NPC both feed it. . . hmm.
It never ends!
Iām looking forward to seeing the pricing on the Graphene SluggoāMark sent out one to a person with multiple SDFBs to try out and he has posted positive initial impressions.
The fuse box is a good value considering its performance, a $250 sluggo is not. Together they are more than a Master fuse now (not counting the pigtail upgrade that I plan to do).
3M absorber in general has not been a sound improver for me in my experimentation and Iām loathe to broaden the experirence.
This second SDFB implementation even in these early hours is very intriguing. Adding it the Decware SEWE300B amp in place of the Audio Magic M-1 has had a more than subtle effect on the overall sound. There is even more āblacknessā behind all the sound, and this gives instrumental imaging a bit more solidity and āreality.ā Iām especially noticing micro-dynamics with a bit more clarity, enhancing overall dynamics with a dash of vividness. And as a lover of piano I am noticing both the ātouchā of the pianist on the keys and pedals seem more natural and the resonance of the soundboard and the interplay of this with the room and microphone gel together alluringly.
I didnāt really expect these differences to be so defined. It does make me wonder what an SDFB on the DSD Mk II might bring out. Sigh. My wallet hurts. Maybe when my return money from the Loki Max arrives . . . .
Scott, you might really enjoy adding that second one to your DSD DAC.
@Vmax
Have you tried it with the 3M of fuses? The black chilli color from Audio Magic could also be an option to improve a normal fuse. It appears to be a tourmaline color. I heard that the military used these colors against radar. Some manufacturers also offer small stickers for fuses.
I have not applied it to any fuses yet all my fuses are M-1 did not want to upset the wrapper and its black dot. I expect I will with the silver sluggos. Especially the hollow tube one. A great chance to load the center of one.
Called John of CO for returning the adapter, then was told the 20/15A adapter has a locking function so I need to push in hard. He was right because I didnāt push hard enough. Now itās locked in really tight.
But weāre headed out to airport soon so I have turned off the system. Just want to let you know in case youāre interested in getting one.
