Finally got these 12 year old X-Statik’s dialed in and installed the spikes. It’s simply amazing how these speakers continually amaze and shock me every time I sit down and listen to them, especially with recordings that I’m very familiar with. They even make new music very exciting to listen to for the first time. They do so much right and completely disappear with the right recordings.
I plan on eventually upgrading to GR Research’s latest and greatest NX-Treme’s, which I can’t even begin to imagine how much better those things are going to sound. They use the same woofers as the X-Statik’s, but 16 ohm versions, and eight of them per channel, plus two very similar 6.5" mids and a ribbon tweeter, all open baffle from top to bottom. Oh, did I mention that they stand 7 feet tall?!
Now I just need to sell off those recently purchased Klipsch Heresy III’s and the pair of JL Audio e110 subs that I have sitting in the closet.
Anyway, here’s some pics taken a couple days ago right after installing the spikes on the X-Statik’s…
Yes, some items he is out of. He posted about it, things like certain value resistors and caps, and No-Rez. Not sure what else he’s low or out of. One of the reasons why I’m in no hurry in purchasing the NX-Treme’s anytime soon.
He’s out of the NX-Treme M165NQ/16 woofers and the 12" sub kit woofers along with the other bits and pieces. He mentioned his supplier is in Ohio and it is currently closed for business. I can wait until things settle back down and it is save to go outside again. Whenever that day comes.
Tiny little update… got a cover made for my Thorens TD-121. I wanted more of a curve to the edges, but the guy I have make these can’t do larger-radius corners. For the price though ($100), it’s pretty nice.
so…last night during a late night listening session, I decided my audio rack wasn’t quite positioned properly…so I decided to move it, without removing some of the gear (lazy beer thinking) = bad move.
one of the legs got caught on the rug and whamo…one of the legs came loose.
today was re-tooling the system day, with a makeshift setup. and cleaning the kit.
Just curious, do you use any of the plugs for the woofers. I vacillate between one or two. I wish that was never given to me as an option. Most of the time it is just one. Pretty happy with their sound. Not fatiguing, I could listen to them all day.
I did the same on my Rega as I have an Ortofon Quintet Black S on it which means raising the arm with a couple of shims and now the stock won’t fit.
But the increased quality of the perspex used, plus the overall aesthetic, I much prefer it to the darkened stock rega cover anyway, think it looks great.
That’s a spectacular plinth by the way, really nicely done!
Thanks the T3’s are underrated or don’t get a lot of attention but they are true world class speakers with excellent imaging and very adjustable bass output they work really well with class d
if your asking me i did at first now they stay in the bottom two ports, my room is pretty small 13’ x 15’ and then can get boom having a lot of power helps
Totally agree on PSB. my first ‘hifi’ kit (outside of high school) was a Yamaha receiver, Yamaha CD player and mighty pair of PSB book shelf speakers. That little kit rocked.
our TV room has a pair of Imagine B’s. (Might try to hunt down a center channel, but frankly we really don’t do any home theater stuff. I’m two-channel only. We watch movies, but the TV speakers are fine.)
In the same system (which has speakers throughout the main floor, including magnepan .7’s in the living room), I have a pair of Mini’s in the dining room.
I’m with you on the “2 channel only” thing, even when watching films (rarely, for me) we are entirely happy with the TV sound, which is not bad at all if you don’t want cinema FX, it’s an 8 year old Samsung LCD with fluorescent backlight, no smarts at all, and, most importantly to me, in a different room from the sound system
I’m only running one sound system, I know you have other rooms with just sounds
In the UK that would qualify you as a “mad old cat lady”!
Not a complaint, and a cliche I am not particularly fond of but it has its comedy uses at times
