System Photos!

Don’t think the investment of @aangen in his CD player is waisted. Huge CD collection.

You should stop using that old Thunderbird Super Coupe as a storage shelf and get that thing back on the road! :sunglasses:

I had a friend who had a Thunderbird S/C with a manual transmission. It was a cool car!

That was taken during its winter inside resting period. Tis insured and out boost-zoomin now. Have about $12K into the motor rebuild, mods & custom programed chip from Brown Bros Ford Race Division, it is SOME fun to drive. Y’know, from gas station to gas station.
From a previous post:
Contrary to most people’s opinion, achieving extreme fidelity mobile sound (in the right car) is indeed possible. You just have to throw enough money at it. Eons ago when I worked with Alpine they had a staff purchase program here in Canada - once a year you could buy as much gear as you wanted at 50% BELOW dealer cost. That equated to about 1/4 retail. (You had to sign an agreement stating you would have it installed in your car and you would not re-sell it within the year.) I took advantage of this over the years and upgraded annually - stopping when the old school beefy gear gave way to less industrial stuff. The sound in my car is jaw droppingly delightful and very intense. Finely tuned, each speaker is crossed over & time aligned to the driver’s position. There’s an extreme duty Odyssey PC-2150 battery in the trunk, and at around 4000 watts, if I run the system with engine off at a substantial volume, it will kill the battery to the point of audio shutdown in about eight minutes. Some things sound best in the soundroom, some on the headphone setup, but everything sounds great in that car. Up until my current soundroom setup, that car was the best audio sound I’d heard.
Best demo tracks in the car - Joe Bonamassa - Live at the Royal Albert Hall. Dual drummers, one in each channel and when they each strike their snare a millisecond apart - the effect is spectacular in a small enclosed environment.
I think - in the day - had I paid retail and had to hire an installer, the system would have likely fallen into the $20 - 25K region.

Now you’re speaking my language! You should consider posting a thread about your Super Coupe! I’m sure a good number of us here would be very interested in it.

I prefer a pair of iem’s and a decent source.

aangen, You haven’t heard this car…

I started out with the Shure SE846 and still love them. But now it’s LCD MX4s, Arya, Fostex TH900MK2 & TH-X00, Focal Clear MG, DT1990Pro, Abyss Diana TC, three amps, an RME DAC, a DAP… what a crazy fun hobby…
But I still maintain, all three environments are equally outstanding - in their own different ways and I love them all and utilize them all fairly equally. There are tracks that sound great in either the soundroom or car or headphones. And to be honest there are not that many that excel equally as well in all three. The soundroom and headphones are very resolving but the car has always had a WOW factor that just can’t be replicated. People will revel in headphone or soundroom demos but a car demo, you will actually see eyes and mouths widen. Likely because is seems somewhat foreign that a car can sound like that. I used to be a regular judge in the “Sound Off” competitions back in the 90s when it was popular. You would be amazed at what some folk put into their car systems and do for a trophy!! No different than some of the outrageously delightful systems I see with some folk here. But in an automobile. 75% of the reason I chose the TBird was for the optimal available speaker placement, and acoustics.
I remember one soundoff, a kid had a Honda Civic(?) - he twisted the cigarette lighter right and the OEM Honda AM/FM faceplate flipped down and a Sony CD player extended out via some motorized setup. Twisting the lighter the other way withdrew it back in and flipped the factory black Honda face back up with that cheezy Honda green display showing the time. Here’s the thing, the OEM Honda volume control actually controlled the Sony’s volume. The kid wired it all himself. Impressive.

Here’s two of the car’s amps and a woofer"

I have SE846 and KSE1200’s attached to a AK380. Sure there is stronger stuff but I am comfortable with the current setup. Once upon a time I was all about headphones. I like where I landed.

The offset chair was the first thought I had when I looked at the photo. There’s listening and there’s active listening.

Sad day. XA100.5’s won’t fit in the new space.

This fits perfectly. Only 20 hours on it and it’s starting to make me happy.
We’ll see how happy after another 100 hours.

Here’s my headphone gear. The Questyle Golden Reference System is just Headphone Nirwana.
I might sell it now being able to turn up the speakers in our house. Could be worse…;0)

I started out with a Technics receiver, but I did have (wish I still did) a PL-518 TT and still have my first tape deck, recently refreshed, an RT-707. My dad used to have the 727 and still uses his CS-77 speakers, my uncle his CS-99A’s.

Pioneer has had a long enjoyable history in our family.

Mmmm Susvara drool drool…
Of the headphones I’ve listed above, the Arya is my favorite daily driver. Even over the Diana TC (tho they aren’t quite broken in yet…) I’m itchin to try the Susvara. I’ve really not been all that thrilled with the LCDX or MX4s. Or even the Focals, but the Hifimans are splendid. Have you heard the Arya? Looking for a point of view between the Susvara and Ayra.

That looks like a treble woofer!

Ah, he’s no treble at all…
The 5 pound hound . He’s a toy rat terrier - I call him the Ratweiller.
Or the cleavage canine.
(Think bendy-over summer time gals - “Oh, can I pet your cute dog?”

Sorry I have never heard the Arya. Only the HE 1000 SE and compared to the Susvara those were obviously less detailed. Try the Susvara if you can. They won’t disappoint you…

Sorry, but I’d MAKE them “fit”.

Things are finally taking shape. My 5.0 Channel rig is the best I’ve ever owned in 23 years of playing with discrete (and some up-mixing when necessary) Surround Sound. Be it movies or music. 2.0 Channel audio is pretty good too !
