Please go ahead and create a new thread to address Stratos issues.
Is kinda nice though having everything BACCH technical in one place. The subtopics change from time to time anyway. âWhat are you listening to nowâ does work nicely being in a separate place. I would keep Stratos and non-Stratos listening together there too. Am flexible thoâŠ
I personally like the way things are now. Edgar does a lot of new stuff, but keep it all in here gets my vote. (and I am not curious about Stratos)
We agree!
Thank You,
Steve
Today things settling down and my puny system sounded like the silbatone horns! This is incredible. The horns and alsys vox are the two highest expressions of our hobby I have (and it seems, a lot of people) have heard. Stratos is a must have and Edgar is one of the geniuses of our age.
Great video, thanks!
Can you please comment on the experience of Stratos with two listeners side by side? Is the surround sound still impressive enough, albeit not âprimeâ? How much of the effect do you lose away from the sweet spot? What has held me back is that I almost always watch movies with my wife.
Feedback on this from other Stratos users most welcome too please!
Thanks,
Phil
Oh alright. Iâll get it. I have no sources for it though. Sigh.
No experience here regretfully. My wife views my system as a direct competitor and pretty much only just tolerates it. Having said that, the strict limits Edgar places on positioning are not that strict. All the other improvements stratos brings to the system are great and well worth it in my opinion.
Aangen, Apple Music has tons of Dolby atmos music. You can access it directly from the Mac mini. I also see stuff on Tidal, but for some reason stratos canât detect the atmos channels on my system. Waiting for Edgar to fix that if itâs possible.
I have never used Apple music. I am not really comfy with Apple. And yetâŠ.
Years ago people would talk about the Mac Mini as a music source. I would think, why not use a carton of milk, or a potato instead. Now look at me. All of my music gets processed by Mac Minis.
Edgar used mind control on me. There is only his way for me now. But why hurry? The journey has been fun so far.
You may be surprised.
Tidal gets discussed a bit further above. I usually point out that Apple does not play well with others in the consumer ATMOS space. But in this case Tidal has very limited ATMOS support for others.
@Steve08226 and I both have the Nuprime-X H16-AIP that can solve this. His even came from Edgar, who bought some units for resale from Jason Lim, for whom I was effectively a beta a year back.
The H16 is not for everyone though. The firmware is going through continual development. And really the only solution for many will be with the new hardware coming, the HX16.
But if the notion of playing with the Dante Virtual Soundcard seems like fun to you. Or if Edgar sets everything up for you, it may well do. Glad to discuss, here or via private message.
For film watching with a rocket flying in from directly behind you, it wonât beat having two actual speakers behind you with a good multichannel DSP. I use SoundID, for example.
Still, my sofa co-pilot is a supporter of Stratos. Though for us, this was mainly based on music demonstrations, using 7.1.4 WAV-ATMOS files to play through two speakers.
She enjoyed test watching the beginning of The Matrix solo with Stratos, but had me switch, not to my 9.2.6 system, but to her 5.2.4 system upstairs with the sofas that she likes for actual movie night.
Half-price for January is pretty nice tho. And also well worth it for me playing stereo material. YMMV.
Our Nuprime unit is already physically installed, Edgar is scheduled for this morning to set everything up with Stratos.
Cool! I know he is very busy. When you do the separate Stratos filter for just the left and right front channels, see if he has you only look at the left speaker. We were in a rush when we set up Stratos for me here in Germany and I only noticed afterwards that my virtual front right channel sounds like it comes from in between the right speaker and the virtual centre speaker. Have not had a chance to fiddle with it myself. But is something to check when he does the barking dogs or bullet bang tests to see if the virtual speakers are in place. Let me know if he has any tricks to make it right!
@Carousel What benefit does Stratos have for (regular) stereo music, over and above BACCH & ORC?
Maybe itâs not important, but the discount on stratos ends on the 15th of Jan. This to answer your query re why hurry.
By the way Edgar is my new hero. The previous one was (actually may be still is) is Bruno Putzys.
I also only looked left during setup. Re relative volumes click on stratos and then the extension. It has volume controls for each âspeakerâ. This might address the problem? Everything is a mystery with Edwardâs magic.
