Edgar figures out ahead of time the things you will say or ask that will offend him. He doesn’t require you to actually think or say them. It’s weird.
Make sure your speakers are in phase. Make sure your Subwoofers (if you have them) are working correctly. Have all the B4M gear setup and connected before the call. Connect your Mac Mini to a DAC via USB. Have your Preamp set to play the output from that DAC. Take the microphones out of their case, as well as the “Y” mic cable and it’s extension.
When it is time to make your first filter, engage the photographic memory portion of your brain. After your Edgar call, when you want to make a new filter, call me.
Don’t mention aftermarket cables of any type. No mentioning fuses either. And for God’s sake, don’t mention DSD!!!
dang, i think i left that in the basement back in the 90s…
If you have a second phone or other device to video or to take key photos during the session, that can help.
The guys here who Roon can probably explain afterwards what Roon settings Edgar leaves and how to play DSD again.
It’s weird, at one time I swear to BOB that I successfully played DSD through BACCH without converting it. I know that is not possible, but one time…

When I read that B4M opened up Orchestral soundstage and recreated a Symphony’s depth and breadth is when I KNEW it was a must have in my system.

Edgar has a number of songs that he will use as part of your orientation call. Many made in collaboration with his close friend David Chesky. I believe you will be sufficiently impressed with what he plays to convince yourself that everything is proper.
He may be open to you playing something from your collection while he is on the phone but don’t take it personally if he doesn’t (he really can’t hear what you are hearing from a full-BACCH appreciation perspective from his side of the call). He’s a busy guy but you’ll get all the time you/he need to get up and running just not much time for side bar discussions.

Haha - yes - that will be the challenge! I believe he does all of these introductory sessions himself and can probably do them in his sleep at this point. That said, don’t be shy about asking clarifying questions. He’s going to assume you are tracking with him if you don’t. If all else fails, there is a wealth of knowledge based on the experiences of BACCH users on this forum and we will be happy to help. You are going to love what BACCH brings to your listening experience!

Re cabling. I have just started moving my whole cabling to David laboga audio. I earlier had been using audio quest diamond Ethernet and top or second level power cables from shunyata an Synergistic research. The David Laboga cables matched this performance at roughly a third of the price with their lower levels, but the higher level cables are a different kettle of fish - simply transformative. I started out with a mid level Ethernet - sapphire, added a ruby and now have an Akoya on order. In between I got a set of 2 AC cables (second level) used. I still get chills almost 3 months down the line. Usually this wears off after a week or so and I’m looking for upgrades then. Once you introduce these cables there is no going back. They were made for BACCH.
I rather like the cables available from Audiophonics in Bordeaux. Their own power cables run like 35 clams. And if I want to go crazy and get some silver in a USB cable, then they carry ATAudio and it will be like 55 clams.
Be prepared to have your lack of room treatments insulted. Perhaps yor listening chair if you have a head tracking problem camera.
Soliciting first setup advice:
Just got the earphones out and realized the length of chord doesnt make it to my even my newer smaller listening space (sweet spot) if connected to the Babyface. It seems it wouldn’t make it in any relatively ‘normal’ sized listening space - during setup did anyone have this issue? I am trying to get everything set up as best I can based on my understanding prior to “the Edgar call” this Thursday…
Babyface is connected to my MacMini (Roon Core) vis USB, and will plug Optical from TV into Babyface for setup… Innuos Zen Mk3 is on the outs … although I still love itñ.
Your setup should have came with a 5 pin XLR extension cable that is at least 20 feet long. Mics plug in on one end, Y Cable connected to the Babyface pro on the other end. Check you packages.
