There is a difference playing Qobuz or Tidal direct from an app on the mini. More bass slam than from Roon on a separate server. . I think there’s some volume difference and it is faster from the Apps. I haven’t tried hosting roon on the mini.
One thing I feel I should have said long ago and often:
If you are going to purchase BACCH hardware or Software, buy it directly from Edgar.
I do not believe dealers add anything to the process.
If you disagree, share who and why. (Please)
Because I was reusing a Mac Mini previously used by a teenager, I had a lot of not-needed-for-Audiophile-purposes settings to fix. And Edgar still found some that I missed. So there is definitely a benefit from getting kit straight from him that has already been set up right.
In our set up:
Mac Mini w/ Audiophile BACCH / Qobuz through Roon sounds best
I don’t like Qobuz interface and lack of lyrics and metadata. The only time I use it is if the wired internet connection is out then hook my mini up to the mobile hotspot streaming from Wobuz spp on Mini.
The only time we use it, is to look up the music suggestions people post.
We can’t add the music through Roon to be on the playlist.
I never recall reading your thoughts on Bacch4Mac versus your previous Software only Solution. Is there a big difference in sound between the two? You were very happy with the Software version for a long time!
Al,
First off there is nothing we don’t like about BACCH and what is does for greater music enjoyment. We’ve been Audiophiles since our first paycheck some 55+ years ago, and to say the BACCH4MAC Intro version without reserve is the best bang for the buck ever Audiophiles can have in there system is a strong, but truthful statement. We’ve quadrupled our music listening since getting the Intro version over a year ago.
You see, we are a couple that will spend all the time setting our system properly (both of us must have OCD), and then just listen to the music with only minor tweeks. The part of this hobby we like is the music, we aren’t particularly the cable swapping type.
Now comparing Intro vs Audiophile… at this time we aren’t using head tracking because the sun was coming in the room from behind us when Edgar set it up (that will be rectified when Edgar has time to install it with ORC).
We now refer to the Intro version as BACCH lite. It gives you a glimpse of what’s coming, but not a complete look. Edgar say 80% we’ll agree. So by easy comparison everything Intro does Audiophile does IOHO at least 20%+ better.
After having the Audiophile version for a month there’s no going back for us!
We’ll say it again, if you have $1K there is nothing you can do to your system that will increase it’s sonic quality, and your enjoyment than BACCH.
Thank you Edgar, we can’t wait for ORC Optimal Room Correction w/ Version 14.
Thank you,
Steve08226
Nice to hear. I am going down this route, and I was planning to use the head tracker (at least for the setup process).
Could you give a bit more detail regarding your brightness commentary?
Where we sit there are windows behind us… we need thicker drapes
Thanks. I thought you were talking about the sound being too bright. If I got it right, you are referring to the lightning conditions of your room
Oh, my mistake, it’s been edited.
Trying to remember what was the first audiophile piece I bought… advent speakers, phase linear amp / pre amp, tandberg receiver, thorens turntable with the cool dangling counter weight…?
Thanks @Steve08226 !
I’ve taken the step of at least telling my wife that I have an AUD$12k (with conversion) upgrade in mind. Having spent a tidy sum on renovations and a few big overseas trips, I’m going to have to be a bit patient!! The feedback from users has been very persuasive…
Cheers
Phil
I had a really nice stereo system (for a newly married poor working stiff) in the mid to late 70’s and we used to go to the music store every Saturday morning and spend the freshly cashed paycheck on records.
Although I didnt know what an audiophile was I really enjoyed good stereo playback.
I dont remember all of the bits but the speakers were BIC (Venturi?) with adjustable xovers on the front face. Sansui AU-717 and TU-707, a really nice for the time 12 band equalizer, nice TT (also Sansui I think) and cartridge (probably Shure).
At that time the stereo was worth more than the house trailer we lived in.
When I upgraded to a triple wide trailer I needed all new gear.
That’s what we had except without the high dollar porch part.
12’ x 60’ with 2" thick walls and ceiling. Frozen pipes in the winter and scorching hot in the summer.
The gearboxes had all failed on the crank out windows so I screwed them shut just to keep them from flapping in the wind.
It cost us a whopping $4000.00 and we made $200.00 a month payments on it. Barely.
If I win the lottery I am going to get the Quad home of my dreams.
We were recently looking at a Bergen in Oak Park, but gave up on that idea, as required renovations were prohibitive. The flat roof and all that comes with it.
Dear all,
BACCH-dSP 14, with ORC, will be released next week.
Thank you for your patience. I hope you will find it worth the wait.
