This is true. Al did get my curiosity up regarding the Grimm MU2 review. The local Barnes & Noble does not carry Stereophile. I’d lean more on your’s and AL’s recommendations than …

Help me out, in short what did the Stereophile reviewer dislike? Possibly the Grimm Mu2 not being offered in silver?

It isnt about the reviewer disliking anything. He liked it just fine.

Just as well.

I have an appointment tomorrow with Edgar to replace the Babyface with the ucx ii. I am excited :sunglasses:

I am getting lazy…

This looks like a cool add on for the UCX-2. depending on the one you pick you could add a lot of balanced inputs:

Ooops, maybe not.

This will probably be the correct thing. $34:

Costs more. But I found the UCX-II too limiting and the TotalMix-FX interface too UI-challenging for family and friends. Went with an Audient Oria. It replaced a MOTU as SF4BACCH Interface. When in stereo mode, I use it with the BACCH crossover too. Just wish BACH4Mac also had an 8th order crossover.

For volume controlling, an SPL MC-16 is to ship to me next week. Got the “All Black” edition with the black badges of the red chassis on the black chassis (which normally has silver badges).

Picture attached is in ATMOS mode with Dolby Reference Player ilo BACCH4Mac feeding the Oria.

I recently got my B4M setup back. I couldn’t get it to work. Edgar called tonight and it took him 24 seconds to find the issue. That Bacch4Mac control panel is way different from the adio interface. The adio interface seems like it was designed for Seniors. Larger and less text. Instead of EVERY possible option on ONE screen, it uses many. Some I never use. Anyway.

Someone asked me to compare Bacch4Mac to BACCH-SP and it occurred to me I had never tried. As the SP has its own DAC l would skip using it so I have them both feeding the Grimm MU2. One via SPDIF, one through AES. I have the ability to use the exact same cables for both, but that would make @paul172 sad. So best cable on adio, lesser cable between the Matrix and MU2. I finally put the Stealth USB cable to use between the Mini and the Matrix. It has whatever external power supply it usually has.

I am going to bond both endpoints in Roon and stream the same thing to both. If I need to match levels that is easy enough to do with the BACCH controls. So using the IPad I can switch from one to the other. Tweak them as the mood strikes.

Some day I will have that fancy cable. Paul can bring it with when he visits, and take it home again once we know. Fun.

All Hail Edger!!!
He seems nice.

Edit, listening to the adio right now, the Mac mini version has a tough challenge! But who knows?

It amuses me that Edgar tells people to leave TotalMix alone. No user serviceable parts inside. I figured it out quickly. I can’t imagine why the family would need to even be aware of it. Unless they are Audiophile Goons like you and I are. I just use it to mute and unmute inputs. It makes no difference I can hear when I mute them. It just seems like the proper thing do do.

I am still occasionally visited by former teenagers, who seemingly are driven to plug things in where they should not. This was known to happen with the RME 802FS, which has now been sold. All these three models have complicated backsides. But the Oria has the fewest inputs on the front. Just the two that I need for BACCH.

I missed this email upgrade notification.

Anyone start using it yet? Sound improvement?

Version Notes for BACCH-dSP v14.4
(since latest full release version 14.0.3)

Improved upsampling/downsampling algorithms to record transparency levels. (All editions.)

Improved parallel processing. (All editions.)

Improved level matching between ORC applied and ORC bypassed. (All editions with ORC.)

Head tracking camera is now reset to the correct resolution automatically at the end of the startup sequence after BACCH-dSP is launched. (You may need to wait a few second after the end of the startup sequence for the camera to be ready.) (Audiophile edition and above.)

Added two intermediate settings in the Spectral Entropy toggle for the QFF. LOP and HOP bands in ORC: between the previous settings 25 and 10 there are now two new settings: 20 and 15. (All editions with ORC.) (All editions with ORC.)

Changed the default settings for Spectral Entropy for the QFF. LOP and HOP to 70, 15 and 10 respectively (previously it was 70, 25 and 25) as a starting point with less aggressive correction at high frequencies. (All editions with ORC.)

ORC head tracking now automatically turns on when a bin that is HT enabled is selected. (All editions with ORC.)

Corrected the order of convolution for BACCH-HP (headphones simulation) so that
for PASS I, the order is XTC  ORC  BACCH-HP OUT,
for PASS II, the order is XTC (matched)  HP (with ORC baked in in)  OUT. The label “ORC baked in” now appears in the corresponding bin for that case,
leading to the correct loudspeakers emulation over headphones (with XTC and ORC).
(All editions with ORC.)

If the Mic EQ File is not loaded, the text “MIC EQ NEEDED” is now displayed prominently in bright red in the Mic EQ name field to remind the user to load the individual Mic EQ file that came with the BACCH-BM binaural microphone. (When that file is loaded the name of the file, showing the first 3 digits of the mic’s serial number. will be displayed in bright green, as before.) (Audiophile edition and above.)

The sine sweep level in PASS II is now automatically adjusted to match the sine sweep level when making a PASS I measurement. (All editions with ORC.)

When Arm button is pressed, the “PASS I/PASS II” toggle switch is now automictically reset to its default “PASS I” setting. (All editions with ORC.)

The “PASS I/PASS II” toggle does not appear anymore when making a sweep test (in the Bypass bin). (All editions with ORC.)

The head tracking limits are now stored in the support folders for each bin, and automatically reloaded when the bins are selected. This increases head tracking robustness and accuracy. (Audiophile edition and above.)

Fixed a bug that caused the Mic EQ to still be applied when the Mic EQ filter was ejected. Also fixed the logic so that after the Mic EQ file is ejected, the EQ is bypassed and the “EQ/No EQ” toggle does not apply the filter when that switch is in the EQ setting. (Audiophile edition and above.)

Fixed a bug that caused head tracking to get stuck when an SP+HT bin was re-crunched into an HP+ST, or vice versa. (Audiophile+ edition and above.)

Fixed a bug that caused BACCH-HP (for headphones) filters to make a pop (and shut down audio) when Bin 3 is selected with ORC activated for that bin. (Audiophile+ edition and above)

Fixed a bug that caused ORC not to work properly for BACCH-HP (for headphones) bins with head tracking. (All editions with ORC.)

Fixed a bug that caused the output to revert to the headphones output channels after the Arm button is activated and a bin containing an HP filter is activated (either manually or by toggling “With Head tracking”), which caused a pop and a silenced sine sweep output. (Audiophile+ edition and above.)

Corrected typo “Sereo” in Credits panel, and listed the new BACCH-ORC provisional patent there. (All editions.)

Fixed a bug that caused the “Updating Plot” labels to remain at the end of a bad measurement. (Audiophile edition and above.)

Hey buddy!
I actually installed it by myself. That surprised me. I have both the Bacch4Mac setup and my adio connected to my system right now. I can switch between them at will. The new upgrade, how does it sound compared to the previous version? I can’t be useful in that regard. I didn’t have my B4M setup for a few months. It was out on loan infecting a friend of mine. He now has his own. So before and after I can’t judge. The upgrade has only been out a week or two.

Still no ORC for the adio. But Edgar sent me a photo of the new interface. It is like the old days, you either had a green or amber monitor. I chose amber. As did Edgar. Can’t wait for it, and yet that’s what I have been doing since February. I am getting really proficient at it.
Update and report!

@Vmax Just follow this part as it says, otherwise it will not update: Step 4. Double-click on the BACCH-dSP icon in your Applications folder to launch it (the first time you launch a new version of BACCH-dSP it is important to double-click on the actual application itself and NOT launch it from the Dock or by double-clicking on an alias of it).

Cannot comment on SQ. My system is in a tear up with the arrival of new ATMOS gear: Audient Oria and SPL MC-16. I did cut new BACCH filters at least, both for stereo over speakers with normal passive crossovers, and using the BACCH active crossovers. But kinda cannot A-B test anymore…

The upgrade is up and running here. Indeed you have to follow the instructions (windows is so much easier to handle). The changes in ORC default settings are audible. In my case, I had to navigate to the orc page and apply the new default settings.

Did not feel any difference from the new digital filter.

I have been criticized in the past for being obsessive. I pick a person or thing and dive totally into it. Then one day, for no reason I just end whatever it was, a person, a band, an artist, whatever. I just don’t anymore. BACCH technology is still burning. I am pleased as punch with it.

I did a brief test comparing the Bacch4Mac setup to the adio. I made brand new filters and ORC and listened to five songs. Then I switched to the adio and listened to the adio. Soon I forgot about the test. I will say the test is pending.

A friend is coming for a couple nights. I am going to make him decide.

For me both are completely worthwhile. The PowerZone is like an X2 multiplier. It doubles the BACCH fun. I have listened BACCH free, just the MU2, and it’s all that. It sounds like it can’t be improved. Then you switch on the BACCH and it’s like a jolt! Blam! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

It still seems nice. But so does not BACCH. I wonder who will be second at not liking it.

Having heard Bacch and PowerZone at Axpona, I chose PowerZone. Install and forget, no fidgeting, no likely failure modes. Simplicity at its best. Bacch, I’d continue messing with settings until I rendered it unlistenable, or just brick it. I’ll know soon if I made the right choice.

We all get an opportunity to choose incorrectly I guess.

Hi @weedeewop, BACCH is pretty straightforward to set up, and Edgar does this for you anyway. I’ve had to get help a couple of times and he was right onto it. Transformative sound experience! You can’t brick it. Can always reinstall the software.
PZ will have to wait for me. I’m thinking Fidelium XLRs next, then perhaps Muon Pro, followed by Grimm Mu2 (it might be 3 by then!).
Enjoy the PZ! I am envious.
Cheers, Phil
