Good to know. Now if I could get BMW mx costs in line with Japanese bikes…

And while I’m dreaming I want them to sell a bike in that Honda deep red…

@umiami91 That’s just awesome. I haven’t ridden on the road for more than 40 years but still remember buying a top of the line Bell and a set of fitted leathers then. I wish I could still fit into the jacket but those days are long gone. Nothing like leather to keep the parts in place should something go wrong. I only went down once and they saved my bacon.

@Elk Nothing looks better than a girl in a set of riding leathers. Or just the jacket. I am surprised that anyone outside of a rider or ex-rider can tell the difference although in a side by side they are obvious.

This is entirely accurate. When I was researching and purchasing my 2018 Panamera 4S I found insurance on the Panamera was less than a BMW M550ix, Audi S7, and even a Range Rover Velar. My insurance company hated anything with a M in front of the model number.

Probably the most frightened I have ever been in my life was during Drivers Ed. I was raised on a farm. I started driving tractors when I was 8 yrs old. I learned to drive a car by tearing up the wheat field(after harvest) in a Chevy pickup with a 3 sp on the column when 12 yrs old.

I was put in a car with 3 city kids who had never touched a steering wheel in their lives. The instructor would let them drive first trying to keep us intact. When it was time to return to school he would put me behing the wheel with instructions to get us back while he concentrated on writing up his class notes. I thought I was going to die more than a few times.

Like that time on a “group safety ride” where the guy on a Triumph Street Triple couldn’t seem to manage to get the concept of target fixation and nearly rode me off the road.

Lessons learned:

  1. If you’re going to have a bike like that, be worthy of it

  2. Never, ever go on group rides.

The last time I went on a group ride, it was on a bicycle. Long, ugly story, shortened: I broke my left femur in 10 places after being run over by another member of the group.
No more group rides.

Cycling/motorcycling reminds me of that one line from Grosse Point Blank:

“"I didn’t get into this business to have any relationships! I don’t want to join your goddamn union. Loner, lone gunman – get it? That’s the whole point.”

I have been cycling seriously for 15+ years and have group rode one time 14 years ago… sucked… surrounded by cyclists I would not trust to carry a bag of groceries… The nice thing about Ironman is there is no drafting, no hiding a lack of talent, or lack of training discipline… just your talent and training against the field and the most talented and best trained win… drafting is penalized…

Competing as the member of a good team is also a hoot.

I also enjoy group rides (bikes and motorcycles) with people I know and who ride well.

But this discussion now belongs in the bike thread, not the car thread.

I have never fallen off a bike because I never put myself in a position to have that happen. Also, when I ride, I have a Garmin with performance data I monitor constantly. I consider other riders a distraction. Since I am a completely non social person, my rides are all about training and performance. Group rides are used for recovery and really have no benefit…

In a press release from the European Commission, they explain how they have agreed and rules and requirements for new cars. Among other things, it will be that the car will automatically stop accelerating when it has reached the maximum speed on the road.

Imagine you are driving on the highway. You have just placed yourself in the overtaking track to drive past it in the innermost track, which lies and runs 120 km / h. You push the accelerator to the bottom to get by quickly and then retract.

While lying in the overpass, you can see how your car accelerates to 130 km / h, but from there it won’t run faster. It can be the future in just three years, when the EU Commission agrees on new rules of the game in traffic.

On the track, when I used to do track days, I pushed pretty hard, trying to get as much out of the chassis as my “talent” could. But I’m a very nervous passenger. Here’s a good reason to be so…

@RonP - A movie was made on his feud “RUSH”; a great movie - 2013 · Directed by Ron Howard staring Daniel Brühl, Chris Hemsworth, Olivia Wilde, Alexandra Maria Lara. The merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda

That was a Cray, Cray… good movie as a good friend says all the time…

I honestly hate Ron Howard movies… he makes stuff up to make money. I saw Rush and while it was a very well crafted movie and enjoyable, it created a false narrative of their relationship… a lie to improve the storytelling tensions… in other words… to sell.

Another famous lie of his was Appollo 13 where he had the engineers yelling at each other. That type of an environment would have killed those guys… “Failure is not an option” was NEVER SAID.

Read the BBC article… scroll down and read the paragraph above the picture of Lauda and Hunt.

We live in a world where lies are more desired than truth. I don;t get it. Their stories are fabulous as they are… why lie about them?

@bruce-in-philly - I boycotted Apollo 13 and will never see that movie. I was a Marine and our flag is so important to me… Yeah, he is a feel good producer… the Fonz… yeah, I could see that…

[edit] First Man I boycotted… Apollo 13 was boring…

Fully agreed.

False history.

It’s great seeing the cars, I like old school and something you don’t see very often. My 1968 cutlass I purchase it from the original owner in 1990. I painted it in 1991 it’s time for a repaint. The last 6 years I did a complete Mechanical rebuild from front to back complete drivetrain . 800 hp and 675 foot lbs of Torque . Lots of fun, I just have to respect the gas pedal.:grimacing:
