Qobuz. CD. Posted recently by @Rushton. I always find the Bach cello suites hard work, since you have to listen to them attentively. My original album was by Starker, and this has become a ‘reference’ for me. This version is played on a shoulder-cello, which is said to be more period authentic. The sound is good, and there is a fine sense of being in the same room as the instrument. My initial impression was that it sounded rather laboured, and this was never wholly dispelled. The Gramophone review was very positive however, I’ll stick with Starker.
