Sinatra has its place in my listening regimen as well. That and as a guility pleasure I have a bunch of 50’s and 60’s space age and bachelor pad music. I just don’t post them.
Wow! Talk about small world!
He is truly the Godfather of the music scene around here - a well-deserved title too
The wife and I went to see Matchbox 20 last night and this guy was the opening act. He was pretty good. Contemporary music. He played most of the songs on a 12-string.
Post. Them.
Very cool. His name sounds familiar, but I don’t think he was on my radar. Looks like he has a pretty large catalog of music. Anything particular you recommend checking out?
Um, maybe…
Possibly rates a new thread, Mid-Century Cheezy Bachelor Pad and Space Age Sounds. Sub-title, The Sound of Seduction.
Oh, well almost anything the db’s did - he and Peter Holsapple were the driving force behind the band. Peter’s name might be familiar to you if you know REM well, he was the perpetual “fifth member” - he’s also a local scene stalwart. My favorite db’s album is probably “Stands for Decibels” which was their first. “Big Brown Eyes” is, to me, a perfect pop song.
Though you can’t listen to it - Chris also did a super cool project a few years ago having lots of talented people recreate the music of Big Star’s Third with the help of Jody Stevens, their drummer. He had strings et al. I was lucky enough to contribute to one of those - here is a photo I took of Mike Mills of REM fame playing the basketball as a percussion instrument (unfortunately it was so dark you cant really see Mike’s basketball)
I’m here for that!
Thanks for sharing all of that. I like REM, so I am aware of Peter and Mike. I see Chris did an album with Peter called Here and Now. I will dig a little deeper into Chris’ (& The dB’s) discography.
You will have to report back on the GTO after you talk to him.
will do!
