What are you spinning now? Mark 18

I’d be happy with a rickety windmill, but not appreciated in suburbs;)

If I was a little closer to the river I could have water wheel power…

Released today in a DSD256/DXD transfer from an original “White Dog” RCA Living Presence LP, this is a stunningly good transfer of this iconic 1960 performance. Here.

The 45rpm 2-LP reissue from Analogue Productions has long been my gold standard for this recording. Since I don’t have that any longer, I’ve missed being able to listen to a really good copy of this recording. The commercially released digital reissues I have lack the natural timbre of the instruments that I hear in this new HDTT release. The standard RCA CD is just a pale ghost of what is in the recording. And the AP SACD is pretty good, but simply not as fully fleshed out and natural sounding. In this HDTT transfer, the instruments once again sound more like real instruments played in a natural acoustic space. Hurray!

Later: Review now posted at Positive Feedback, here.

I fancy a house on a hill with a top lake and a lower lake, pumped storage during the day from solar etc. and use it at night for power
Of course, I call a solution having lots of 12 volt lights around (car headlights always useful!) but I think the family would want something rather more impressive.

Alternatively - John Paul Jones’ old mansion (and former Led Zep rehearsal space) is on the market
[Kate Winslet almost bought it once]

The River Dart could probably drive a nice water wheel or two

on the deck after a 1/2 day with my three grandsons and daughter at a lovely place called blackberry farm in far west Chicagoland. It is 70 deg F and bright sunshine, cool for mid June. Very long listening session ahead…grabbing some heaven while I can.

big fan of this troubled man. Headed back to NOLA in Aug for Satchmo fest. First time back in a while. Think Glen is out of town. Summer is slow season but Satchmo fest is heaven for a trad jazz fan like me.
