One of the best Miles Davis stories I have heard concerned an incident that occurred when he was playing the Blackhawk. A guy in the audience called out to hear “Stella By Starlight.” Enraged, Miles ranted that no one tells him what to play, and he had the guy ejected from the club. After the guy was gone and the dust settled, Miles turned to the band and named the next tune … “Stella By Starlight.”
