John Zorn, Bill Frisell, Julian Lage, Gyan Riley - Lamentations

More lining up with earlier Zorn, as in Masada series, Lulu, and Morricone covers. This one looks to be an interesting turn for Mr. Zorn. From the Tzadik website:

Zorn’s lush and seductive compositions for the magical trio of Frisell-Lage-Riley are some of his most beautiful 21st century creations, and this seventh CD in their ever-expanding series is their best yet. A dramatic and colorful tribute to the expressive Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, Lamentations contains four extended pieces that unfold like exotic flowers—gorgeous music with a dark philosophical edge. These master musicians—three of the greatest guitarists in the world—work together with a profound symbiosis, forging a unique orchestral sound world unlike any other. Stunningly beautiful music that will make you think, dream, and that will nourish your soul.

Its apt to call it “Lush” for sure - some beautiful compositions. Definitely not Zorn of old!

When I think of John Zorn these are typically what comes to mind. My age is showing,

That first Naked City album changed me - for the better. I love it.

Spy vs. Spy got my attention. Then the Morricone film score covers. After that it dug in deep with Masada and Cobra.

All excellent - especially that Ennio Morricone album. I always thought John was the right person to pay tribute to the man - not sure a lot of people agree with me on that.

Btw, a few days ago I noticed you played some Cluesone Trio - I saw them open up for none other than John Zorn back in the day. Crazy good show

Zorn’s The Big Gun Down gave me a new found appreciation for the music of Ennio Morricone. Clearly John has a sense of humor as exemplified on the album. Previously leaning hard on the Dollar Trilogy sound tracks.
Regarding Clusone Trio, I caught Micheal Moore live a week back at Constellation and Hungry Brain. I opted out on his first concert Friday night as I participated in the MSB Cascade demo and roll-out at a local hifi shop. Looking back on it, I’d have been better served to have gone to the Micheal Moore performance. The high point of the MSB demo was an opportunity to meet-up with forum friends, and get a spectacular burger!
