Finally have it on the deck! When the 33’s originally went on sale in 2022, I managed to get a copy of Rastaman Vibration, but the Exodus copies sold out insanely fast. The demand was so high it brought down the Acoustic Sounds website! Plus it was lower quantities at only 3500.

But I count my blessings really, Rastaman, I don’t mind having on 33rpm. This album though is sonically wonderful, probably the best produced of all Bob’s albums. Apparently the difference between the 33 and 45 is not that profound like on some records, but an area that did get a bit improvement was the lower end and for Bob’s attention to political and social issues, I think lower end is hyper important and adds weight. It’s really nice on this copy.

The clarity and detail is quite incredible, even for a UHQR, bit taken aback there. There are a couple of points where it becomes too shrill in the top end, near the end of The Heathen for instance there’s just one tiny part where the synths (possibly heavy effects guitar) just go far too shrill and it overwhelmes everything (can literally feel my ears overloading). I don’t know it that’s on the original, have a feeling it may be in the recording.

But it’s quite beautifully done, and I think the estate will be very proud.

The performance is good, but SQ is definitely not audiophile quality. The audio was taken from a live broadcast. I just received it the other day, so I have not watched the DVD yet so I cannot comment on that part yet.

I’m a big Al Stewart fan, which is why I went ahead and bought it. When this was recorded was about a year after Time Passages was released, so it was at the height of his career.

Some may have noticed the large number of organ recordings passing through my “spinning now” posts. Well, that has culminated in this rather long article posted today:
